I designed all the costumes for the musical Cats back in 1981 and did my best to authenticate the true flavour of T.S Elliot’s infamous book on which this splendid piece of theatre is based. Me and Andrew ( Or “Lordy” as I called him) had many many personal chats late in the night back in 1977 whilst he composed the songs and he relied on me heavily,bless him, to breathe life into the ballads.Soooo many stories. Watching this beautiful rendition by ELaine and Barbara (auntie Babs as I called her) from Chess really brought it all back to me. So emotional. I have to say, the Sydmonton Festival was make or break for us all at the time as that year Dennis Waterman turned up pissed boasting about Minder and the scheisse really hit the fan…loyalties were divided and it very nearly destroyed us. . Thank god for Rula who lightened the mood and got us all back around Timmy’s for cocktails after. Bad Cinderella wasn’t his fault I can tell you….Dicky Davis and his then mistress stirred that pot let me tell you. Do go to see Hamilton……I wrote most of the hooks and Diss tracks.

I first heard the version with Whitney Houston and her mother. I love both versions... 😍 (I think one of the most important lines we cam remember is "He needs his fantasy and freedom." Women need the same, but rarely is a man trying to eliminate your fantasy and freedom. In either case, you cannot be someone's everything - allow them their own thoughts, desires, and freedoms. Hopefully those will be largely explored with you . Don't try to mold and change their fantasies and freedoms!
