I decided to stick with ac. Xl looks really weird, awfully designed. And I heard from other places that WiFi range is worse with xl. And it’s a little bit more expensive. So just ac is what works great for me.

I highly suggest checking out the Mikrotik Channel for a video titled 'Common MikroTik WiFi Mistakes and How to Avoid Them'. The presenter is truly knowledgeable about WiFi technology. With each update, there are changes to consider: regulations evolve, and even device password requirements align with EU standards, as seen in the cAP XL, which differs from the AC. After I applied the insights from this video to my network configurations, I noticed a significant improvement in my WiFi quality.

What Cisco ASA did you end up getting? I’ve always wanted to get an AnyConnect appliance
@bluntlab
@bluntlab Жыл бұрын
I never got an ASA in the end. In fact I switched away from Cisco all together simply because my internet is now gigabit and any Cisco router that can do gigabit is like a jet engine taking off and costs a kidney. Now using Mikrotik routers so have L2TP for my VPN needs. but I had great success with the OpenConnect server software. worked great for an anyconnect server without paying a dime

@@bluntlab Fair enough, yea Cisco equipment under pressure like that is supper supper loud. I have L2TP, PPTP, OpenVPN, and WireGuard all running, however something about the Cisco AnyConnect UI and just over all experience is amazing. Plus you can configure it to be at the windows login, so if your using Active Directory, and a new user hasn’t logged into the computer they are trying to login to, and they are off site/domain controller isn’t reachable, they can click the AnyConnect icon on the windows login screen, enter their credentials, be connected, and then login to the computer as it’ll be able to contact the domain controller. Never heard of OpenConnect, but thank you so much for bringing it up, as this seems like a way better way to go, both cost effective wise, as no licenses, and just flexibility. Seems a little tricky to setup, but I’m determined as I really love AnyConnect. Is this the only solution your aware of emulating/pulling off the ability to use Cisco AnyConnect? Thanks again for your reply! 😊

I would like to know if someone could help me guiding how to do some kind of bypass (circumventing the sensor) for the switch to work with a generic fan or even to work without fan, so that I test if only the fans are committed or something More is bad in them. The TX power is capped by regulations, hence the RSSI is presumably roughly the same. The XL has "larger ears" and can hear your signal from farther away. This should yield better transfer rates, especially in the uplink, but also when downloading (because ACK packages are sent via uplink during downloads), and it should be easier to establish a connection as fewer packets get dropped, especially if your mobile device also has a large/good antenna.

I bricked the phone, the tftpd64 server was being blocked by the firewall on win8.1. I tried many hours to make the firewall open up with inbound and outbound rules but no go so eventually i turned the damn firewall off and i have a working tftp but the phone i think needs a special piece of hardware or router like u have to fix it?? can u confirm this? the phone boots up into a blank screen after the usual leds light up in propper sequence, so i believe the phone is NOT DEAD, can u confirm this too?? cheers n thanks

The test methodology is flawed. Setting could make a major difference, (e.g. antenna gain) One of the routers might be unlucky and experience more interference at the respective band. All in all, "same hardware, but bigger, higher sensitivity antennas, yet performs worse" makes zero sense.
@bluntlab
@bluntlab 2 жыл бұрын
Both AP's used the same channels and was in the same location for both my tests. I am planning to retest this when the weather is warmer and do it more fair. I also used an out of the box config just with different SSIDs and manual channels that was free at the time. I think the issue is in the UK the radio power is limited with the higher gain antenna. so the cAP AC gives out a stronger signal. the smaller antenna is more like the ones in iPhones etc. I have deployed both of them in my home network now and the XL does not seem any different from the AC I bet if I could configure both radios to use the exact same power it would be an easy win for the XL but sadly I have not observed a real benefit with regular devces. Granted it might perform better with certain industrial devices with high gain antennas also. Considering the price difference and the lower power due to the larger antennas in most countries I think its better to just buy two cAP AC's. and IMO the cAP AC's are more nicer looking. the XL looks really bulky and not very nice. TLDR: Testing was the best I could do in my limited time. Have not observed any benefits since deploying them. Probably because of the radio power limits on the XL. the cAP AC looks nicer and makes more sense to buy two of them instead for even better range than a single XL

Has anyone here been able to use the 8800 phones with the 2800 routers?

Sorry but the 8800 series are too new for the 2800 www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/cme86spc-htm.html You might be able to make it work as its just a SIP phone but not worth the hassle when a 2900 series router will support that phone. I have upgraded mine. Does your serial number contain CN by anychance? a serial number with CN in it usually means greymarket which means no firmware upgrades either. If it contains WR instead then the is no reason it shouldnt be able to be upgraded. As for Hik-connect I never use it on the cameras themselves. But I do know you have to use a certain part of the serial number and not the entire thing. Bit annoying think its just the numbers at the very end after the CN/WR

I like that you have both and tested it but you definitely need to rework your methodology. I would like to see them go tit for tat.

@@bluntlab The CAP AC XL is not just 802.3af. According to its product page it’s capable of using 802.3at (“PoE+”). If you only used af switches, Mark may be correct, you might not have been feeding the CAP AC XL with enough power. I would recommend redoing the tests using the included PoE injector, or an at-capable switch
@bluntlab
@bluntlab 2 жыл бұрын
@@QuadMoePiece I see your POV but Mikrotik claim that it uses no more than 11w with nothing attached (to the passthrough port I assume) so the 15.4w of 802.3af should of been plenty. And anyway the power draw on the XL should be lower with the higher gain antenna anyway as it shouldn't need more power. I want to retest these when the weather is not so wet/cold and hopefully with ROS7 instead as I have not ruled out a software issue with the cAP XL as its not identified as a cAP XL in the software and rather just by its board name so maybe RouterOS is not tuned for the XL varient when I did my tests
