I believe Otto inherited Danielle’s recklessness while Reggie inherited ray’s more sensible mind. But definitely the disease theory is the most plausible.

I always theorized it might have been a boat related accident, Raymundo was always most anxious about the kids’ safety when they went near or on a boat.

I think that Raymundo having his kids surf afterwards even if she died from surfing isn't far fetched because it is something their mother loved to do and it kept their mother's spirit alive in them. Plus I notice he doesn't go out there a lot with them that might be due to the fact that it is still hard for him to bring himself to do it despite knowing that he enjoys it because the memories are hard for him.

There is no way that the death is related to the sea. The childern would stay away from water if that were the case. Rocket boy has been known to be wreckless. His lack of regard and his love for extreme stunts is a sign . I am pretty sure that the mother died because of a accident of her own doing. If not a diving accident it was most likely a car wreck where she was the driver OR some over the top stunt that went horribly wrong that resulted in her death. It could forshadow Rocket Boy's future death, hence why his sister is so over protective.
