Oyama didn't smoke. smoking doesn't always cause lung cancer other things can do that too but weird pattern isn't it? Musashi Miyamoto died of lung cancer. weird. Masahiko Kimura too and other great martial artists. it's very odd

This is what gets me about this guy. He was reported to be a smart guy so why did he think that he could survive with minimal supplies and think it wouldn’t get him killed? At least with a map, he could have been able to know that further down the river bank, there was a safer way to cross. A dad that doesnt like milk

Based on the statistics, kids are more likely to become criminals without an active father in their lives. This scenario is not too much different than the mother providing everything, with a father not around, and yet kids have a higher chance of becoming criminals. So if it was the father providing instead, but is still never there, that doesn’t change anything. Perhaps the mother will have more time to be with her children, but that doesn’t change the fact that the kids are more likely to become criminals without their father active in their lives. Now with a father who doesn’t provide, but is actively involved, the kids will have the better outcome. Of course, we have to assume that either the mother provides, which happens. There are some stay at home dads. Or they are getting the bare bones essentials another way.

Idk. What i can say is that being broke is very traumatizing for a lot of people. You build terrible habits that persist with generations and create a cycle. I don't think either is good, but I'd say the 1st is better. At least the kid could easily grow up and be like "i don't want to miss out on my kids lives like my dad with us" and it kind of just ends there. Sure in the poor example you say well you just end up rich and stop it there, but that's less likely than 1st scenario or we wouldn't see generational poverty like we do. Not to mention being broke comes with this anxiety of being known to be broke. Will someone notice you only have 2 pair of pants? Your shirt gets dirty with a stain that never comes out, will someone point that out? You only have 3 shirts so it's a matter of time. Will someone ask to come to your house, but your house isn't that nice and barely has food? Now they can tell everyone and break your social standing and self esteem. Will you miss out on one time experiences like your 8th grade trip to Washington DC because it was 900 dollars and that was more money than you've ever seen and the family is struggling at the moment? That's what being poor was like for me and it was a lot worse and a lot better at times. We weren't even always poor, would just have life changes that took us from security to unstable. I still remember when in front of like half the class, this guy hit me with the "how you show up to school with stains already on your shirt" and everyone laughed and I went home and checked my shirts and cried because they all were stained😂😂 and we were primarily broke during all this because my dad would have anger issues and not keep a job, so I had him around all the time. This created a little resentment in me, i felt like we were struggling because he wouldn't put his ego down to give us a better life. Now that I'm older I can look back on things and laugh and all that, but I'd be lying if I said I don't live with the fear of ever being broke again and do everything to avoid it. Lastly I was always focused on growing up as fast as possible so I could be in control of my own life, I couldn't want til I was old enough for a summer job then after that, i couldn't wait til I had a permanent job. I don't sit around angry over that stuff or sad, but I do wish I enjoyed being a kid more when I was in that place.

Does not matter which parent is the workaholic If the other parent is fully caring for the children on emotional level and education level then it can be a win win. If it is balanced it can be best outcome for the children.

Both lead to sub-optimal outcomes. You need both parents in a kids life if you're aiming for the best chance of raising a functioning and thriving adult.

They're both focusing on a need.

Either one could be good or bad. It depends on the rest of the family dynamic.

Wrong, ones providing a better life for his kids and giving them a future and a comfortable life off the back of his hard labor. The other is prioritizing his kids over all else which that in itself isn’t a bad thing. But the father needs to provide or him and his wife needs to find a work life balance. Neither are necessarily bad just you need to find the balance in these two situations.
