My mom's family used to run that burger boy (not for long I think). Spent many summers in that lake. Thanks for the memories. Love Watrous, even went to day camp at that dance hall.

Im so polar opposite of buyoant that i would bob up and down a good ten feet below the surface like a cork. If i couldnt already swim id have been the first person to drown there.

You should have learned how to pronounce Manitou while you were there. Did you ever go in the water or the pool? The pool definitely beats the lake for both temperature and clarity. Also, there are several large car dealerships in Watrous that draw in buyers from across Saskatchewan and western Canada.

You need to go back to Galena, KS and go inside the Texaco station to meet Aaron. He's doing some seriously neat projects with Route 66. (And be sure to ask to see the bathroom.... Weirdest, but coolest thing I've done on 66!)

My grandparents owned the land the church was on and sold it just a few years ago. My grandpa told me the old truck there used to have a boxed in back and was used to pick kids up in the area and bring them to the school. My grandma was one of the kids. A very cool spot! The old church before it burnt down was a hiding spot for bootleggers who would stash alcohol under the floorboards!

lotta these towns were places we went to for parts, fuel, food and sundries back when I was a farm kid in the 60's and 70's. Visited a few in the last several years and it is kinda heartbreaking to see the demise. But there is a certain beauty in abandonment. And if you remember the place as it was well, there may be some emotion. And a bunch of towns managed to hang on. Small towns are not yet dead.
