Tried reading through this. i always check creation and combat. its very hard for me to grasp Travellor combat. creation turned me off as its too much. to be fair im new to rpgs. The issue with these old games is gameplay example are either missing info or absent completely. i'd need to see it played or demo'd to understand. i have no idea how folk even play these old rpg games.

Amazing take! I am now playing the fantastic narrative game Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood by Devolver that is deeply entwined with an endemic card reading symbolism. What do you think about the application of divination principles in that one?

I love Bastionland videos! Having an author review is great. "Into the Odd" descendants are really cool. I helped my friends Joe Williams and Kathy Williams in the early 1990s at GEN CON for their Lost Souls: a supernatural horror role-playing game about ghosts. The player characters in "Lost Souls" are recently dead. They start the game dead with unfinished business. Thank you for the awesome content!

I do have a question about the myth location. When the players enter a myth hex, it triggers the next omen. Correct? What happens if they decide to exit the hex, then enters it again? And do it again until they trigger the last omen this way? Does not make sense in the game world... But as a player, it does...
@Bastionland
@Bastionland 5 ай бұрын
So normally you make a wilderness roll at the end of each phase, which has a chance of triggering an Omen from the nearest myth, or a random myth from elsewhere in the realm. If you end the phase in a myth hex then instead of making a wilderness roll you automatically encounter the next omen from that myth. If you leave the myth hex then you're ending your phase outside of the myth hex, so you'd make a wilderness roll as normal, so there's still a chance you'd encounter an omen, but it's not guaranteed.
@benoitpoulin2733

@@Bastionland Thanks for the answer. So let's say they (the players) find a Seer that tells them where the hex of a myth is. They go there without triggering any omens. So they trigger only the first omen when they arrive at the hex of the myth. To be sure to triggers all of the omens until the last, what do they do? They move to an adjascent hex to return on the myth's hex? That seems a little weird, and kind of creates a weird behaviour of the knights in the fiction. I am sure I am not understand something here. Can you enlighten me? Thanks again for creating your games!

I’ve really been enjoying listening to the podcast and these videos. Any chance of a book detailing thoughts on game design? So many great games like Cairn and Mouseritter have been influenced by Into the Odd and Bastionland. I’m sure I’m not alone in wanting to read a game design book based on these concepts.

Hi - question. Not sure if it was answered somwhere, if so, sorry. what if players want to invest themselfs into encountered omen? Lets take en example with the river one from beginning of this video. Lets say players talk to the monks who offer bread to the river. They gain knowledge of what they are doing and want to press on with this myth. What should happen then? It feels natural that monks would send players somwhere, to the next omen of this myth maybe? Ask for something in return etc. My intuition is that than players could be directed to the this myth's hex, or at least somwhere wbere the next omen of this myth couls be encountered and potentialy start the whole adventure. Basicly it feels like the first question from players during omen would be "cool, where should we go or what to do next to get more knowledge of this myth". Do MG then should improvise the fixed location of next omen fron the list? Maybe direct players to nearest Seeker or smth? Amazing game, as a backer cant wait for backerkit and early pdf's! Game looks absolutly amazing, and Im huge fan of Into the Odd which I played already a few times (with Fallen Marsh module) with diffrent player groups in Poland :) love from our community, Chriss and keep on designing! :)

Glad you're enjoying it! You're right that if players investigate a Myth they should get some more clues, but the general guidance is that only Seers know the specific location of the Myth Hex. The Monks in this example might know something that hints at the next Omen or maybe even points in the general direction of the Myth Hex, or they might direct the Knights toward the nearest Seer for guidance.

The HP increase from scars is to your maximum HP, not your current HP. It represents you getting better at avoiding harm in future, but you're still vulnerable in that moment.

A great introduction for Traveller... First comment, as I watch. As an player of the original LBB (Little Black Books) the reason they used 10=A is (1) using the concept of the UPP (also the UWP <Universal World Profile>) having a two-digit number renders the concept of the UPP / UWP worthless. Also, the 0-9 then A-F is a computer numbering system called hexidecimal. Having the UPP / UWP, once you get the hang of it, allows you to know the person / planet-moon by sight. Also, my "death" house rule was that you just stopped generating and used them as rolled. As a GM, I used them as an NPC later. Otherwise, there were player-generated tables and the one by Mongoose that has an alternative to death (injuries, etc).

I've been playing Cepheus Deluxe which is like Old School Essentials but for Traveller. It's based on a later version of the rules though, I had no idea the combat in the first ever edition was this complicated! I recommend Cepheus Engine for anyone wanting to get into Traveller as it's free and comes in a few different flavours.

you forgot to roll for promotion in your first term, your 1st term personal development skill as Brawling, on the mustering out table your first Gun or Blade is a physical object, a repeat can be taken as a 2nd weapon or a rank in the Skill. Nothing is Free in Trav if you don't get gear when you muster out you have to spend your cash or do without. that character you made would be a sort after Navigator, once hr hits the Gym and Books (Personal Development in LBB-3) could be a ok adventurer.

What kind of actions can Companions (such as the Snare Knight's animal companion) (or Steeds) take? e.g., Can the Snare Knight's Vengeful Weasel attack in combat? Like I see in the preview that all beasts seem to have a Guard value which implies to me they can be involved in combat? But while "Charger" has a "d8 trample" and the "Hound" has a "d6 bite" listed, the "Riding Steed, Heavy Steed, Pony, Mule, Sheep/Pig" and the Steeds/companions on the Knights' pages do not have any attack/damage listed. Thanks!
@Bastionland
@Bastionland 7 ай бұрын
If they don't have an attack listed then it's assumed they're too small to attack a person effectively. In the Weasel example they could still act as a distraction, take small items, attack other small creatures. Whatever makes sense in the situation, really.
