I recently bought Bonsai and I love it! It’s such a great game! We’ve played it so many times and it’s always so much fun. I even love the solo player mode. I haven’t heard many people recommend it so I’m so glad it made your list

This sparks in me the need to see if anyone else has a gripe about the quality of the components in Harmony. I love the game and the wooden tokens but the card quality is terrible and my little cubes have some of their corners chipped off. And we haven’t even really played it hard.

What does it mean that you cannot stack the deckbuilding cards? If i have 2 cards that give me each 2 money, i can play only one and get 2 money or i can play both cards and get 4 money, this is very confusing in the rulebook? Thanks

I have the TMG version, and I love it. I ordered the new version + the deluxe components and I'm going to keep both version in my collection. I also have the R&W version of the game. Yeah, I really like Yokohama!

I backed Photo Tour. It's a little simple for me, but I would prefer to try and wean my family off Ticket to Ride and up to Photo Tour. It would be more interesting to play for me. And I love the theme. I'm allergic to dairy and I grew up addicted to cheese, so I probably need to skip everything to do with cheese, including board games to not be tempted.

G'day friends What are some of your favourite family weight board games that have a vividly colourful table presence? I often think that board game table presence is so important for drawing in people's interest in a board game. I also love games that have an elegant ruleset. What are some of your favourite games with a simple ruleset yet the depth of strategy is deeper than it seems? This is a safe space to chat, share your ideas, thoughts and opinions. Below I have also left a recipe for making your very own Aussie FAIRY BREAD! Ingredients Slices of White Bread 100's and 1000''s Margarine or Butter Steps 1. Spread butter or margarine evenly on your slices of white bread. 2. Pour a plentiful amount of 100's and 1000's on to a shallow bowl or dish. 3. Press the buttered bread face down into the place so that the 100's and 1000's stick. 4. Cut the bread into triangles. 5. Enjoy! :) Cheers Danny

I'm a themer for sure and need the art to be good. But my non-gamer hubby needs it even more lol He will often choose a game on its vibrancy. Like, Welkins isn't the game of the year but it attracts because of the colours. So he likes it more because of that. He might like this one because of the art as well. I'm trying to expend my library to lighter weight games so he has more choice for game nights :) This might fit the bill, we'll see what he says when he watches this. Never knew fairy bread was actually with sprinkles lol I'm a French Canadian, we don't hear about Australian culture as much as in the English world.

As for time, my wife and I have never had a TM game at 2 players less than 4 hours and some as long at 6-7 hours. AN is a long game too, but probably 3 hours for 2 player
@jtarman70
@jtarman70 11 күн бұрын
My wife and I own both games. We have been playing TM for 4 years now and every game is so different. We love that its like conquering the wild wild west. AN seems more structured to us, more confined/policed but we still like the game a lot. One thing we absolutely do not like in AN is the conservation part. We think the game would play better and with more focus without this distortion of reality. In real life, Zoo's take in animals, they very seldom release them from captivity into the wild for several reasons, one being that they would not survive the wild after living in captivity, this part of the game is really just counterproductive and unrealistic. In our opinion it pulls your focus away from the real object of the game which is to build the best zoo! Other than that the game is great, but we do like TM better because of the overall freedom of choice and personal decision making, reminds us more of real life LOL! Conclusion, both are great games, everyone has different taste, but we own and enjoy both!

Terraforming mars is my preference. Just the way most things are handled and the requirements to do things. Terraforming Mars feels way more freeform and I prefer that. Even simple things like the hand limit are better. Ark Nova is good and I'll play it but I'm fine not owning it. Terraforming Mars I have to own.

I also have wanted to try/buy this one for a while, and meant to get the TMG version but as soon as they went out of business it disappeared pretty quickly (I did get a Duel copy, but don't get 2P games played as often so it needs to be played soon). I ordered a 2E copy when I heard about it(also got premium components). Should later this month and not too long after my birthday so happy bday to me lol...

I really enjoy Yokohama. It is on BGA if people want to try it. I have been a little intimidated in getting it as the setup and space seems like a lot but perhaps I will get the new one. I do like how nice the upgraded components looked. Thanks for highlighting the differences to the older version.

Just got my copy of this rendition. I have been waiting to play this game for the longest time. First impression with the components. It is a very good retail copy having all the wooden components for the Presidents and Assistant. I also appreciate the recessed boards the inclusion of the scoring track on each others player boards. Only a couple of things, 1. I find the assistants way too small too handle and then placing them in the recessed boards (could be coz i have fat fingers) I wish they made them same size as the meeples in Iki. 2 the text on the cards are way too small. It is really hard to read and very frustrating. They really need to re-consider using mini euro sizes with a lot of texts on them. It would be better for iconography instead, just like the order cards. Otherwise the design is good. If I could get the original version (deluxified) then it would also be my preference.

It's not Japanese themed but I recently got a hold of an only played once copy of Uwe Rosenberg's Oranienburger Kanal which is a 19th century German industrial period themed game. It's a Eurogame that has worker placement, resource management, tableau building and it's drier than a crate of unsalted crackers with silica gel packets lining the crate in the middle of the Mohave desert. 🏜️

These are mostly terrible tips: 1. You don’t get much of a choice in which properties you get so don’t always have in mind that you’re gonna get orange or red. 2. Almost impossible to get a full set on railroads unless you trade something huge for the 4th one. No one will allow you to have a full set on railroads unless you massively overpay. 3. The cheapest properties should have houses first and then the money used for that can be used on the more expensive properties. Best examples I’ve seen are light blue + green and brown + dark blue. 4. This can work late game however mid game you’re better off having 3 houses or a hotel, especially if the cards for house repairs haven’t been pulled out yet.

I like the 1st rule because it stops the first player from having such a big advantage over the last player to roll their turn. If you go last, especially if you play in a 6 player game you’re almost guaranteed not to win since you won’t be able to get any property without trading money.
