Regrettably, (thread) worms are common in developed countries too and lead to some unusual disruptions of circadian rhythms, often misdiagnosed as psychiatric disease, and usually treated with a cheap simple course of "..azoles" . I'll write offline about this. UK tapeworms average 3" long - so no worries! The African varieties are MUCH larger and cause unbelievable chronic disease which SHOULD be eradicated.

Cars should definitely not be washed in a lake, all the oil, antifreeze, and other chemicals should not be allowed in water. That stuff is toxic.

I have never been out of the country and I have this. My guess is someone from an Endemic area swam in same pond/lake I did and urinated and infecting the snails. This is a Worldwide problem.

Did you went to doctor and they diagnosed it as schistosomiasis? Btw do you live in Latin America, Africa, or Southeast Asia?
@Toomuchbullshitt
@Toomuchbullshitt 2 жыл бұрын
Schistosomes are blood flukes that use certain species of freshwater snails as their intermediate host before jumping into its final host. The bumps that most people get after swimming in a lake or pond is called swimmers itch. Those immature worms cause the rashes but they do not parasitize specifically on humans. Instead they just suffocate and die in your skin instead of going into your blood stream. There are different species but none are found in the U.S. that can infect humans.

+Ahmad Morad i think so. i have to go back to the doctor and get blood tests, though. the first symptom i had for schisto was elevated eosinophils, so if they're normal i think i'm cured. but the doctor also said that i'd test positive for schisto antibodies for the rest of my life, even if i am completed healed...... did you get schisto too?
@dmackler58
@dmackler58 8 жыл бұрын
+Ahmad Morad yes, i'll have to have the blood test soon. i'm so glad i got the medicine -- i felt very ill. it was horrible. meanwhile, good luck with your medical studies. and if you're interested in recovery from schizophrenia without medication (that is my area of study) i've made some films on it, translated into lots of languages. best wishes back :)
