I just read Little Town on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder, she mentions this song and how she could hardly bear the sadness of it. I wondered how it sounded. Hearing you sing it really brought that moment to life, thank you.

Thanks, this helps me with my duet. I’m alto part and it helps to practice with soprano so I get used to the other part there.

Very nice! A friend of mine sang this our junior year of high school at District Music Contest and earned a 1 rating. It really suited her voice; this was a strength of hers to know what song was right for her. I wish I’d been half as smart! My voice was probably equal to hers but I chose poorly and never rated as high. I tried heavy art songs when I should have been looking at songs more like American Lullaby. You have chosen well with this song because you are perfect for it. Thank you for posting this! It brought back some wonderful memories for me.

I did this exact song in middle school my 8th grade at a UIL SOLO AND ENSEMBLE CONTEST and #1 Superior Rating (Sweepstakes). NOTE THIS: I am profoundly deaf since birth and the judges NEVER KNEW! ❤

I have to learn this number (bass tho) in a quick pinch for my solo/ensemble competition coming up, and I learn music quicker by ear than through study. This has been the best guide for this number so far. Thank you so much for this.

On a quiet misty morning When the moon has gone to bed, When the sparrows stop their singing And the sky is clear and red, When the summer's ceased its gleaming When the corn is past its prime, When adventure's lost its meaning - I'll be homeward bound in time. Bind me not to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow. If you find it's me you're missing If you're hoping I'll return, To your thoughts I'll soon be listening, And in the road I'll stop and turn. Then the wind will set me racing As my journey nears its end And the path I'll be retracing When I'm homeward bound again. Bind me not to the pasture Chain me not to the plow Set me free to find my calling And I'll return to you somehow. On a quiet misty morning When the moon has gone to bed, When the sparrows stop their singing I'll be homeward bound again.
