I learned book binding in art school. Used PVA glue. Never thought of the hot glue gun. So much faster.

I made it the same way one time, but when I started folding it, the adhesive started to falls off :// was this lamination pouch specifically thin?

We-r-memory keepers just came out with a new cinch hot binding machine, it works similarly, but costs… you need to buy the glue strips, and it is limited in size. I like your method better! I was thinking of using a thicker card stock, just as wide as the paper, and fabric for the spine, you just gave me so many ideas, thank you!

Just gonna throw my experience out there: 1. PVA: The spine will definitely crack. 2. Hot Glue Gun (any cheap one from Amazon): You won’t be able to spread it evenly because it will dry in 2 seconds. It is extremely extremely hard to get it near even spread. Alternative (cheap): Thermal binder Alternative (expensive): Commercial perfect binder

Hi, I found this helpful. Can you make that bookbinding you use to bind books if I order from you? Because I am not skilled to do it and I need wooden boards which I have not as well. I need one. Thanks

Sometimes I make books for a small editor I know, but I always did it with with glue and the process is slow and boring. I'll try this, I always wondered if it was possible.

Thanks. Where can I find the plans for your book binding jig you mentioned?

The design of you press block is flawed. When you tighten the press block, you create a bow in the middle of the press block. This means the middle of the group of pages will not be a closely pressed together. Make the press block from 2” angle iron.

I'm interested in creating my own printed coloring books locally as a back up plan as well as selling downloadable pages online. I thought a book binding club would be cool for my small town. I'm sure there are other artists who might make their own coloring books or sketchbooks as well as authors, or whoever would like to learn this as a potential hobby or extra income.

It would have been better if you had bought rice flour and rice starch instead of going through so much trouble.

I like this, and I bought a laminator. However, this seems a bit wrong to me. You use a laminator pouch and do two covers at once. A laminator is just heated rollers. There does not seem to be a need to use a pouch, which is designed to seal up things. Rather a single sheet could be used, and the laminator would just be heating up the back side of the cover, which is ok. I noticed that lamination plastic is also sold in rolls, so you can cut single sheets from it, not pouches.

You could use a thermal binder with normal letter paper (or whatever size you can find for the cover). A bit pricier, but if you think you'll make a lot of sheet music books like this, I believe it would do the job. I don't have personal experience but they seem to work well online.

I've used this approach but the folding is where I need some assistance - when I fold the cover the paper separates from the laminate. Can you provide any advice?

I just feed Laminate from a role into these machines. More expensive up front, but so much cheaper in the long run, also you don't need to mess around with a second sheet and cutting stuff apart. Also seems to stick a lot better.
