I knew you'd have to be starting Phase II of your GDMBR soon, so I've been keeping an eye out for a journal on Cycleblaze. When I didn't see anything there, I remembered you seemed to be transitioning from bike literature to movie stardom. (You know you're a big star when advertisers have signed on to your videos.) Luckily, I decided to look for you again on KZfaq. Nice breakdown on your gear, but you didn't mention where you were going to store your big brick of Velveeta. I look forward to your first video from the road.
@RonSuchanek12 күн бұрын
Thanks Greg. I haven't figured out the Velveeta thing yet. It's a puzzler. I started June 23 and am having a great time despite the preposterous Montana forest road hills. I am probably going to start the Cycleblaze journal after I get back, as I'm finding myself exhausted every day. Thanks for checking in! I'm updating every week or so on Instagram.

Interesting to see you changed use to an Ogre from the LHT. I have been riding a Disc trucker on gravel. But am working on changing it up to a Ghost Grappler. Good luck on you adventure this year looking forward to following you adventures
@RonSuchanek28 күн бұрын
Yeah, I was pretty adamant year that I would do it on the Trucker. It's my favorite bike and dis a great job. I've ridden hundreds of gravel miles on it. But the Ogre is just better suited for the terrain. I w heard people like their Ghost Grapplers. Good choice! Thanks for watching.

I watched all your videos last year - I’m from the UK…flying out early July to start in Banff. Mixture of awe and anxiety at present - the scale of the journey and the bears! Thanks for the gear video it all helps with preparation 👍Good luck with your trip this year…

You're going to love it! The scale and terrain is intimidating, but the days are long. Bears aren't likely to bother you, just keep a clean camp and store or hang your food and smelly stuff. Have a great trip and thanks for watching!

If you haven’t left yet….Beware of your REI quilt. That’s the same one I used on the divide last year. After 15-20 nights, the down in the horizontal chambers sloughed off to the sides and left me freezing until I got it replaced. Every night I would shake it back to the middle, to no use. I do toss&turn a lot , but it still seemed to me that there was not enough filling. Mine was a 30 degree.

Thanks for watching! The LHT did well, no problems. I ended up getting an Ogre for this year's ride. It's better suited for the terrain and the larger tires and wheels are nice. But the Trucker is a beast and handles everything well. I saw lots of Trucker/Trucker type bikes out there. Hope you can do the ride some time. It's amazing.

@RonSuchanek thinking about it, wife is out so there’s that. I got an entry level bike for now, Poseidon Redwood I wanted the Priority 600x but another tough sell to the wife. She’s actually very supportive of me doing something but she thinks that might but too much, I need a little excitement
@princepage632Ай бұрын
nice video. but you must be retired or have lots of money in order to just take off and not work and go play . I mean i bike a lot , but can't leave my home for that long. I would have to leave my apartment or move out and then ride it. i mean i have done lots of biking and still do, i don't have anything to prove by riding this great divide. I could do it easily. You don't have to be in shape to do this ride. I can see that already. I mean i can do 100 push ups/ 20 pull ups/ and 30 dips weighing 210lbs, and i can ride a mt bike or gravel bike 11 miles in 45 minutes. i mean all those numbers are in a row non stop, one exercise after another. I can see the why someone would want to do this ride.Its an awesome ride, but like i said , i would have to move out and put all my stuff in storage, and then do the trail. I mean it's not worth losing my home over it. another thing that i am concerned about is losing muscle mass on a ride like that. I suppose i could bring my push up bars and do them everyday after the ride. When you get old, your going to need that muscle and strength. I mean, at that point, i would just keep going and touring. I would be homeless on a bike. ha ha!! I love bike touring ,and i do short multi day tours. But anyone who has done the divide has something to be proud of. It's an awesome ride but beyond my scope financially.
