When I didn't see anything there, I remembered you seemed to be transitioning from bike literature to movie stardom. (You know you're a big star when advertisers have signed on to your videos.) Luckily, I decided to look for you again on KZfaq. Nice breakdown on your gear, but you didn't mention where you were going to store your big brick of Velveeta. All looks great Ron. I have those same Arkel panniers for a few years now, and they work really well. I've used them for lots of different things, and they've really held up. Have a fantastic trip!

I to am taking a chair its a knock off weights .9 kg and was only 24 euros so if it gets a problem will just dich it. Going through Whitefish 8/9 July see you out there maybe.

If you're tubeless, looks like it, stash your plugger right on your bars with some tape or a rubber band. Immediate availability. Can be an hour saver.

If you haven’t left yet….Beware of your REI quilt. That’s the same one I used on the divide last year. After 15-20 nights, the down in the horizontal chambers sloughed off to the sides and left me freezing until I got it replaced. Every night I would shake it back to the middle, to no use. I do toss&turn a lot , but it still seemed to me that there was not enough filling. Mine was a 30 degree.

Really enjoying your adventure. I turn 60 a few months ago, retiring next spring and just received my gravel bike in the mail today. Ive been watching divide videos, yours is the first route that doesn’t scare the sh*t out of me.

nice video. but you must be retired or have lots of money in order to just take off and not work and go play . I mean i bike a lot , but can't leave my home for that long. I would have to leave my apartment or move out and then ride it. i mean i have done lots of biking and still do, i don't have anything to prove by riding this great divide. I could do it easily. You don't have to be in shape to do this ride. I can see that already. I mean i can do 100 push ups/ 20 pull ups/ and 30 dips weighing 210lbs, and i can ride a mt bike or gravel bike 11 miles in 45 minutes. i mean all those numbers are in a row non stop, one exercise after another. I can see the why someone would want to do this ride.Its an awesome ride, but like i said , i would have to move out and put all my stuff in storage, and then do the trail. I mean it's not worth losing my home over it. another thing that i am concerned about is losing muscle mass on a ride like that. I suppose i could bring my push up bars and do them everyday after the ride. When you get old, your going to need that muscle and strength. I mean, at that point, i would just keep going and touring. I would be homeless on a bike. ha ha!! I love bike touring ,and i do short multi day tours. But anyone who has done the divide has something to be proud of. It's an awesome ride but beyond my scope financially.

I rode the GDMBR in 2017 to celebrate turning sixty. Still enjoy watching others on their rides. Such a highlight of my life. Hope it was for you too.

Hi ! I’m doing this starting June 25 out of Banff. Thank you for posting your videos. How did you like the 5-10 shoes for this? I was wondering if with all the hike a bike I should wear (very) lightweight hiking shoes. They stick to the flats ok. Thanks again!

Are you from Salem? As that is where I live I really enjoyed these videos. You have inspired me give it a try also. I was thinking about starting in Whitefish myself and try it for a week. Good luck this year.

Your videos are great! I was on the divide last yr too. I ran into the guy with the dog in Ovando. Must have been nice meeting Lael I wish my videos were as good as yours but I did them at night in the tent when I was tired and fear from the bears (which I never saw)
