Therefore, according to this theory, the Jews are well ahead of all other cultures. They started 3300 years ago and have never stopped to evolve. That explains all their achievements and their many noble prizes. During that time, cultures rose and died: the Greeks, the Romans, and the Egyptians…Christianity started only to evolve during the Renaissance or the French Revolution as the Church was again any form of learning that didn’t involve faith; the Arabs began to evolve in 600 and are still religious fundamentalists.

Since you are confused about James arguments that he makes regarding gender studies. His main concerns include: Ideological Bias: Lindsay argues that gender studies often prioritize ideological commitments over objective analysis. He claims that the field is driven more by political activism and advocacy than by rigorous academic inquiry. Rejection of Biological Realism: He criticizes gender studies for downplaying or rejecting biological differences between sexes. Lindsay contends that the field often emphasizes social constructs at the expense of acknowledging biological realities. Postmodernist Influence: Lindsay points to the influence of postmodernism in gender studies, particularly its skepticism towards objective truth and its emphasis on social narratives and power dynamics. He argues that this leads to a relativistic view of knowledge, undermining scientific rigor. Language and Terminology: He criticizes the use of specialized and, in his view, often opaque language in gender studies, which he believes can be exclusionary and obfuscates clear communication. Impact on Society and Education: Lindsay is concerned about the influence of gender studies on broader societal and educational practices. He argues that the field's theories and ideologies can lead to divisiveness and the promotion of identity politics. Peer Review and Academic Standards: He has raised concerns about the peer review process and academic standards within gender studies, suggesting that the field sometimes lacks the rigorous scrutiny found in other disciplines.

I have written some articles about cultural evolution that I need reviewed. I never went to college so it’s hard finding collaborators for peer review but I am confident in the value of my work and have a genuine passion for unraveling the mysteries of prehistory. Especially when it comes to early cultural evolution and the path toward the birth of civilization. If anyone in the field could help me out then i definitely could use a mentor to advise me along the way and offer feedback

Btw i think its worth noting that the approach of these articles is not coming from a purely anthropological point of view but rather encompassing many fields related to history with a focus on how these fields can better use what we know about predictable human behavior to make better inferences about the past and broaden our scope of knowledge helping to pave the way for new discoveries about our ancient world. I do not have any official background in the fields I cover but I have a strong passion for these subjects and am extremely open to critique and informed adaptations to my views in these articles. While I may not have a college degree I do have a long background in and strong knack for applied behavioral analysis as well. I believe the deeper understanding I have of human behavior and why we do the things we do offers a fresh perspective to these fields that could integrate well into the way they are practiced and shed light on many of the mysteries of our complex and treacherous past.

I’m done here. I’m 14 minutes in and can make a ruling. I tried really hard to listen to your criticism. I don’t always agree with James Lindsey and I was hoping to gain some perspective from those diametrically opposed. I did not hear one good argument against him nor did you actually articulate and I mean physically as well as argumentative (the valley girl speech pattern, the amount of, “like’s,” uttered and incomplete sentences) for how he misunderstands post modernism. There was no substance to your discussion outside of, “ look, he’s a hypocrite,” based off of standards you reject and he’s not an ordained post modern erudite so he can’t properly interpret the philosophy. Frankly, I felt like I was watching the doctor scene from, “Idiocracy.” You have a bright future ahead of you Bro…if you can make it to the 25th century.

Just listened to some of that interview on “Very Bad Wizards,” the critique on Lindsey by the show wasn’t about his beliefs or arguments rather about his methodology. They felt it morally compromised what he was attempting to prove. And they can reserve that right because they adhere to the concept of shared morals. You, as post-modernists don’t believe in those structures therefore you can’t use morality as a critique. In fact, to use it just proves how unfaithful you are to the philosophy and your arguments come out only when it’s tactically advantageous and not as a good faith academic argument. Additionally, one of the hosts stated that gender studies as a field is “nonsensical,” and described it as, “Publishing gibberish.”

@JosephFantauzzi-qv5hd 7 ай бұрын
I believe his criticism for the pay to publish journals and some of the lesser known peer review pubs is that these ideas a laundered through these sources. This idea gets peer reviewed and now holds legitimacy to be cited in much more influential journals. His prime example is the article “Glaciers, gender, and science: A feminist glaciology framework for global environmental change research.” In response to your question, “why does James hate gender studies,” I believe this article is what spawned his contempt for the field.

11:20-Maybe take it not as a ruse on the academic scholarship and review prowess but a legitimate critique of post-modern philosophy. That its high minded concepts are a cover for a shallow and simple philosophy. Anybody can understand the magic trick once the grift technique is shown. Like 3 card monte.

i take issue with what was said from 3:44, that colonization hindered their "development" development is a really charged term, as today as back in the 1800's, and basically means "becoming like a proper european" so sure, colonisation may have stopped them from some day developing into a western society, but that's not interesting to an anthropologist. what's interesting to an anthropologist is what material conditions underlie the ways a group organise. doesn't matter whether they obstensibly look to a european to be close to european culture so my question is whether that's just how you interpret him, or whether it's your point of view that developing into basically a western society is what would have happened without western influence/colonisation

This video is about social evolutionists, who undoubtedly argued that there was a trajectory that all cultures necessarily abided by. This video is meant to be educational re: the history of anthropological theory. That said, we spend the end of it discussing how problematic it is, and no, colonization did not stop them from being like Europeans, but cultures are not unilineally organized. Here’s an important question: Did colonization create conditions of deprivation that stagnated a population’s agency? We put development in quotes because these are the terms used by evolutionists, but we then say that this assumption is specious. We have to evaluate cultures by their own history, not that of European history-as if that was a unitary thing, mind you. On the other hand, development doesn’t only have to apply to “being like Europeans” like Tylor and Morgan might argue, but it can also just speak to the level of capacity a population has to change, to practice things, or the ability to do certain things. In short, exercise some agency. But what is clear is that colonialism extracted and created conditions of deprivation globally. Hence Walter Rodney’s “underdevelopment.” An intentional practice with dire consequences. So you have this term being used differently in European contexts, and in the decolonial literature. Underdevelopment is a valuable critique that is worth taking seriously.

Postmodernism is a post, not an ism. Once one has been made aware of limitations of thinking in a modernist way, it's difficult, no, impossible, to think in those ways again: one has become postmodern. Isms that have grown up post modernism can be loosely grouped together and labelled postmodern, or part of postmodernism, but they're defined by something they're not, not something they (all) are.

I was a philosophy major, so maybe I'm biased (was a physics/engineering major for two years) -- this video says a lot but absolutely NOTHING at the same time. So many misunderstandings here. Science is a method, not something that's objective. Pretty simple. There's literally nothing here that is testable or makes predictive results. Just a completely outdated "discussion" that tries to resemble something of import. Also the jarring jumps from subject to subject underlies the utter incoherence of this video. Sounds like a Joe Rogan podcast among comparative Lit, philosophy students. Stop listening to Latour and bring a big ole bag of Occam's razors to shred all these paper "debates." Almost like nobody read Sokal. (Jesus dude, just heard you say "one study will be the answer to everything is a myth." Well, ofc! Dude how many strawmen can you fit into one video?? Literally, zero publishing researchers think that. You just ramble on and on with public domain jpegs and clips to what end?? Fill content? Please stop. You're literally speaking for the sake of speaking. Or better yet, learn about topic sentences and outlines with premises/supporting claims. Or is this intellectual performance art? Man, Wittgenstein continues to be correct: just another language game with players who love hearing themselves speak and pretty much only to each other.

First of all humans are animals and only a fool would think we are exempt from deeply rooted instinctual forces. It is also ludicrous to suggest that men have not changed over time I can think of a great number of things that have changed in the male gender some for better some for worse but yes, we have changed. Testosterone by the way DOES correlate with sexual arousal in men. I tried listening to this pseudo-scientific garbage, but this is ridiculous. Just because you think something is PC, Woke or whatever doesn't make it true further how ridiculous to conflate genetic differences between species "chimps and humans" with psychological variations between human genders. This is not science!

Big fan of Dual Inheritance theory. The idea that culture influences genes which influence culture again grounds ethnogenesis in a biological paradigm, anchoring it to the larger body of science that cohesively depicts everything in the universe from subatomic particles to pan-galactic filaments.

You guys missed the entire point. I hope i can attribute this to a severe lack of understanding as opposed to malice... but I imagine I can't. It doesn't matter how many times they tried to get published or to which journals. It matters that the work WAS accepted and praised on many occasions. They very clearly brought to the forefront the biased and sophistry based approach academics use to peer review and publish runbish. The fact that you did everything possible to avoid this is worrying. Try to step back and look from an outside perspective. Maybe swap out the journals and the writers for the opposites...have some postmodern journalists hoaxing their way into religious or conservative publications and completely exposing them for being fruads in their peer review processes. How would you react? Would you say that nothing they submitted or the obvious conclusions that this all should lead us to is all bad work? Just because it took ala while to perfect the writing style needed to pass peer review? The excuses you use to discredit James, Peter, and Helen are weak.
