Hi @Hoeishetmogelijk I am working on a video about an engine that is similar and was wondering if you would be happy with me using some clips from this video to better show how it works? It would be about 30 seconds of content... Please let me know if this is okay and who we should credit etc.

Please note that during the construction of this ship the imperial sizing system was used. For this animation I used it again to maintain its originality. A conversion table can be found at imperialtometric.com/. Yes, it does make you a little tired of putting in any effort. Do you realize that they used to do all the math by memory? I think it would give you a headache!

Steam Temperature at turbine input less than 100 degrees Celsius. How is it possible?
@thedubwhisperer2157
@thedubwhisperer2157 6 ай бұрын
Water boils at a lower temperature as pressure is reduced. At the summit of Mt Everest, water boils at about 70C. The steam pressure fed into the turbines was 9psia, or about 6psi below atmospheric pressure.

@@thedubwhisperer2157 oh... so turbine works below atmosphere pressure? And gives 16000 hp! Amazing :)

@thedubwhisperer2157 we worked with organisation, which uses 1 GWt turbines operating at 70 atmospheres about 290 degrees Celsius. So these Titanic numbers are phantastic for me :)

Do you think it would be too absurd/possible a challenge to try to replicate the engines of the RMS Titanic (at least as close as possible) in a functional way with steam? in a homemade way, without resorting to ready-made kits, industrial materials, that is, difficult to access.

@@Hoeishetmogelijk Yes but it's dont use real steam, i know the function is the same but still different, in terms of material too. I want to make a model of this engine for a school project of steam engines, it's very complex, but i want to face this challenge despite not having a 3d printer, forge, those types of material, despite all this, is it still possible for me to create a model of this engine with house materials?
@Hoeishetmogelijk
@Hoeishetmogelijk 7 ай бұрын
I think you're making it very difficult for yourself. There are also steam-powered models on KZfaq. If you look closely, there is a lot of advanced technology involved in making something like this. But still I wish you luck!@@lyrocon5951
@lyrocon5951
@lyrocon5951 7 ай бұрын
@@Hoeishetmogelijk Yes I agree. But it's a long-term project for next year, until then I have time. The problem with other types of steam engines, especially on KZfaq, is precisely their simplicity, it leaves them without much difference of each other (that's probably what others will do), maybe I'll try to do something simpler than the titanic engines, but I still want to follow the same idea and basis as the Titanic, and thanks!

Great video. Obviously since this video was created, theres new evidence, mainly that the Titanic's centre prop was three bladed, not four bladed as often believed and depicted (though this video was made before the H&W notebook proof was circulated, I believe). I wonder how much of a difference her central prop made having 3 blades vs the 4 on the Olympic. Surely more vibrations, but I wonder if it was considerably more efficient on fuel or speed? I guess we'll never know, as she wasn't afloat long enough to provide all this data. Great video anyway. People complaining saying your showing Olympics props and about the blade count, be sure to point them at the upload date :P

How can the steam go inside the turbine if the temperature is below boiling point? Wouldn't the steam just condensed back into water?

While the engines from Titanic and Britannic lie within the wrecks of those two ships , the engines from Olympic must have been removed when she was decommissioned . Is it documented where they went ( presumably removed at Jarrow if not in Inverkeithing ? While I suppose they were most likely scrapped , I suppose they could just possibly have been sold for use elsewhere . Is there any record of this ?
