The problem with Chalcedon it is makes it sound like Jesus did miracles by his own attributes of deity. But Scripture does not bear this out. The book of John illustrates many times that Jesus did miracles by the Father dwelling in him in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is why Jesus did no miracles in his childhood, or early adult life. It was after the Holy Spirit came upon him that the miracles started. This was the Kenosis.

Scripture says in several places the disciples words "What manor of man is this?" Answer it was man as he was created to be, before the fall. The miracles were demonstrations of man ruling over the many things God set at creation. Man was to have dominion over the beast of the field, the fish of the sea, the elements like storms, and weather. So it is not Christ's divinity but His true humanity, unbroken by sin, on display.in the miracles.

@@fleetwd1 Well, I'm not sure Adam had control over the weather. But you are right in that he had control over the animals, but it does not say he had control of the weather (who knows, maybe he did). But that is not the point. Jesus did miracles by the Holy Spirit in him, the Father doing his work. Now, if that is true then the Logos had lost his miraculous powers and needed the other persons of the Trinity to supply them. Acts 10:37-38 says, "You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached- how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him." This is a form of the Kenosis theory, when he emptied himself to take on the form of a servant, being made as a man. Yet it must be remembered that he always had that spiritual identity as God.
@fleetwd1

@@Mike65809 it is true weather was not mentioned directly. But it is implied in that man was given dominion over all creation to rule as a coregent with God. Weather is part of creation. You are correct in your rejecting that Jesus used His own divine power to accomplish miracles. He relied upon God for divine power. Paul describes it this way: Jesus, "Who, being in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be used for His advantage." (Philippians 2:6 HCSB) If Jesus used divinity to accomplish anything, He would not be qualified to be a substitute/representative for man. He had no advantage over that which mankind had before the fall. However, He did not have the propensity to sin that mankind inherited from Adam's fall. He was born Sinless as was Adam. He was the 2nd Adam, a representative man. He took on the obligation of Man under the law and overcame where Adam failed. All created beings owe obligation to God for themselves. Only God who is not under obligation can step in and submit to be obligated for another. That the Spirit and the Father were enabling Christ through His faith is no doubt. He had laid down his divinity when He became Human so He could rescue and restore mankind to the relationship with the Father that was originally intended..

@@fleetwd1 Agreed. You are one of the few who gets it. The only thing I would stress is that he was still God in his spiritual identity of the Logos made man. In that way he was always worthy of worship, even a s a baby, which he received from the magi. So technically he didn't lay down his divinity, but emptied himself (kenosis) of the miraculous attributes associated with it and became a man. BTW, I'm sure you would agree that he didn't pretend to be a baby, he was one. He didn't pretend to grow in wisdom, he did grow. The Hypostatic Union idea cannot account for this, or only does so by saying in his human nature he did these things. That brings Nestorius back into the picture, the thing they were trying to avoid. Amen? God bless.

So Wright's weird service to what he imagines Paul imagined and his focus too on place in discussions of a religion with a messiah who pointed to his body as the temple and asserted god is spirit makes this lecture, which I skimmed resemble Dante's march through hell or how I felt learning who knows how to starch the altar cloth or how to polish brass.

The 3rd edition gives forwards by all 3 of the men writing forwards for each edition Richard Bauckham for the 3rd, FF Bruce for the 1st and John W. Wendham for the 2nd released in Europe with less pages. While the 3rd editions has less pages it has Edward responding to the 17 authors who wrote 15 books against his. None of the objections made were not covered in his 1st edition but Edward still addresses their objections. So the 3rd edition has added material in less pages so the 1st edition covers no stone unturned on the subject. Enjoy your investigation of the word on the subject knowing as Edward this issue is not a salvation issue. there are Christians holding differing views Edward just believes this is the most Biblical of the 3 views. Edward does not argue. He teaches Edward Knows this issue is not a salvation issue. He teaches the issue because it is the Scriptural teaching on the subject. You need not agree with him for him to treat you like a brother in Christ for the sake of what Jesus accomplished for God's rescue of Mankind. When Scripture says you are complete in Him (Jesus) it covers everything even erroneous views just as it did the disciples erroneous views. So why teach this issue? mainly so we do not misrepresent God or His word on the subject..i have many videos by Edward dealing with the gospel. He is Exceptional. Rethinking Evangelism is one, his video about his book the divine rescue another and last but not least his videos om Hebrews one about his two commentaries written and a playlist of a sermon given on Hebrews. others may in comments want to argue the issue but Edward said I have put what I know about the subject in the video. I will let that speak for me.

Paul's faith was that of Shem, Noah, Abraham, David, Solomon, the prophets , John and Jesus . The temporary covenant given to Israel at Mt. Sinai was finished at the cross. Upon resurrected, the Lord enacted his new covenant and mediated it himself as promised in the Hebrew scriptures. The fact that he broke himself into pieces ( as in the covenant he made with Abraham) is an everlasting sacrifice, once and for all people, as promised.

I like this guy's teaching, but I disagree with his views that physical circumcision is only for the Jews. According to Genesis 17:11, God {Yehovah} instructed Abraham, a Chaldean, to circumcise himself and every male in his household as a sign of the covenant between God and Abraham. This requirement is explicitly stated in the biblical text. The phrase "will be the sign of the covenant between me and you" in Genesis 17:11 indicates that circumcision serves as a physical sign of the covenant between God and Abraham, as well as his descendants. It is a visible marker of their spiritual identity as being part of God's covenant community. The biblical text does not limit the requirement of circumcision to the Jew/Israelites alone, but rather extends it to all believers who come after Abraham. “There is not Yehuḏi nor Greek, there is not slave nor free, there is not male and female, for you are all one in Messiah Yeshua. And if you are of Messiah, then you are seed of Aḇraham, and heirs according to promise.” (Gal 3:28-29) ~Shalom

Yes Jesus is recorded as celebrating the feast of dedication in memory of the rededication of the temple. It was a typo of event Jesus also indicated would happen again in His generation and many followers of Jesus knew to flee Jerusalem before the temple was destroyed in 70 AD. The temple pointed to God’s dwelling with man which is fulfilled in Jesus the messiah who bodily has the presence of God tabernacling within Him. His flesh veiled this and He was the secret visitation of YHWH to the 2nd temple promised by the prophets. The temple now consists of His followers who have received His Spirit. The man of lawlessness will come to defile the body of Christ even as Antiochus IV and Rome in 70AD have in history. We are called to watch and pray that we are not deceived when it occurs again a final time.

I don't mean to be disrespectful but when you said that those in the flood that died were destroyed forever. How do you explain this? "Christ was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. After being made alive in the spirit, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits- 20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah." (1Peter 3:18-20) Wasn't the flood before Christ came?

I think you misunderstood. Edward does not believe when anyone dies in this present age or life they will not be dead forever until the age to come. @@fleetwd1 Jesus was quite adamant as to when "this age" was to end. How many ages does Edward say there is? Jesus explained it with the parable of the wicked vinedresser and the rich man and Lazarus, indicating the final and complete end of the Levitical order and that end would come in the generation of those He was speaking to. The religious class, Judah had mismanaged the kingdom of God. Through Christ, the hope of Israel, the messiah had come, the kingdom is now being opened up along with the remanent Jews, and handed over to the Gentile nations, the rest of God’s children who He also loved. Once "this age" ended then the "age to come" began.

while perhaps technically true. here is a rebuttal. Science is the study of the natural world by collecting data through a systematic process called the scientific method. And technology is where we apply science to create devices that can solve problems and do tasks. Technology is literally the application of science. (the following was highlighted) So, it really is impossible to separate the two.
@Krakondack
@Krakondack 2 ай бұрын
@@fleetwd1 That's only a beginning definition. Science is a method, and it is not something to trust, only to question. It is never settled, because if something is worth study, it must be open to question. Conclusions that come from science beyond those that ordinary experience confirms (you drop an apple, it falls to the ground) have to be re-visited over and over again. Those taught science and who practice it must principally learn the scientific method, and to always be skeptical. Technology starts with a bunch of conclusions or even observational facts not derived from greater scientific theories, and makes devices that carry out specific tasks, which work equally well whether you question them or not. The only question for the engineer is "Does it work for my purpose?" If you intertwine the two, you get a mishmash where you're asked to "Believe in the science," and because your cell phone works you must unquestioningly submit to edicts from the nation's appointed scientists.
