Soooo good! I know it’s not his song but a take on Yes’s Roundabout has the potential for awesomeness at this level too!

Conjunction Junction, I'm Just a Bill, The Body Machine, Them Not-So-Dry Bones, Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla, and other more recent ones that I have never seen because by then I was grown and Saturday morning cartoons were no longer a thing because cable ruined it. Anyway, now after 50 years I can actually put a face to the voice.

John… I played so many of your charts back in the 80’s and 90’s. I always loved to see them come up on my music stand. Yellow paper. Clear changes. You are a badass mofo! I’m sorry we never got a chance to meet and play. Just know I’ve always appreciated you.

frankly i honestly think this was POSSIBLY b's fave chart of them all bc ive never once saw a show where he didnt play this one possibly with a few concerts in the very early 80's but i don't think this chart ever reted for more than maybe a week at most..i esp like this at this slower tempo MUCH more than the 72 album version the later slower versions have such a deeply felt emotion running through it very reflective..sadly i was never able to ask buddy what it was about best coast he loved so much i cant help but to think it was introspective feeling of it at these slower tempos myself? i loved this chart ever since i heard him do it at toads place in new haven ( of which i was able to capture it on tape that was 81 in fact may 7 1981 i damn near wore the taof that out! again thank you for this one!! its unfortunate that i wasnt able to play this with the (ugh) "GHOST BAND that featured people that had no biz playing it in fact a well known rock drummer DESTROYED (not in a good way) the chart he made it so ugly i teared up bc it was at that very moment i knew that id never hear this nor any other chart in that band played what i call correctly. Infact i mistakenly wasted money on that vid..i burned it in my fireplace (no! i really did!) anyway i dunno id have loved to play this just once in that band i think i honestly could play it the way it is supposed to be played sorry for blowing my own horn but wtf? if i dont who will? right?

This sounds like the Manhattan Wildlife Refuge version. I have heard a slightly less edgy version played by high school and other bands. Are both these your arrangements John? I like this one better. Just curious.
@johnlabarbera4949
@johnlabarbera4949 3 ай бұрын
This arrangement is the same one I wrote for Bill Watrous' band in 1975 and I recorded it on my first CD because Columbia records hadn't, at that time, ever issued it as a CD. I changed it slightly for my recording. The arrangement you've probably heard school bands played is an easier version arranged by Paul Lavender for Hal Leonard Publications. This one is now available from Ejazz lines.

This was a great concept let these legendary drummers be themselves and shape the BR Big Band arrangements around them. This is more of a tribute to Buddy then trying to fill BR’s shoes. Bravo miss Neil he is brilliant here!
