Neil never had a wasted hand movement. Everything flowed with a purposeful fulfillment.

Good drummer but I always thought his lyrics were what set him apart and I suppose being a rock drummer he knew his rudiments which was not so rare then but rarer now but there is a French geezer who keeps flying in my recommended who knows his too but lyrics for me every time and Burning for Buddy where he got some of the real greats in one place Steve Smith, Simon Phillips, Steve Gadd, Bill Bruford, Dave Weckl, Billy Cobham and performer of the world’s greatest solo Joe Morello etc etc etc

Dammit you're good Steve, why aren't you a full time professional drummer?
@SteveHolmesDrums7 күн бұрын
Because being a good drummer and making a living playing drums are different endeavors. I make living doing something else I love while still pursuing the craft of drumming.

@@SteveHolmesDrums I lived in Orange County for 20 something years, just moved to North Carolina a couple years ago. I'm also a Call of Duty maniac and in my 50's. I know how competitive it is in CA and how many skilled dudes there are but as an IT guy, I understand you're getting PAID as an Infinity Ward dev. Anyway, I wish I had discovered you while I was still in CA, keep up the great work dude.

The more I hear him, the more I hear of Neil, the bigger and bigger he grows. I saw Rush the first time in 1981 in a small concert hall in Germany. A friend of mine ask me, if I will go with him to this concert, because he is (was?) a big fan of Neil and a drummer himself. The three guys where the drug of my life since this gig. I couldn't believe that three man can sound like an Orchestra. They are the gods of Progrock 👍👏

Apart from his being the Thinking Man's Lyricist, his drumming was so musical. Perfectly blending with the band, then bursting to the foreground when the song ALLOWED it. 🥁

In addition to an obviously exceptional technique, what visual beauty and intelligence playing ! Flexible, ample and fluid gestures, a strike that is both powerful and nuanced ! I haven't seen a drummer so beautiful to look at and listen to since Dave Weckl. In my opinion, Steve Holmes comes closest on every level. Absolutely fantastic...
