Between George Yeo and Chan Chu Sing, CCS is really mediocre. What a huge difference betweens these 2 scholars. i am very worried as a Singaporean that my country is led by this person - he should retire early

The bias for academic qualifications should start with the Government. No Singapore minister now is a non-scholar or without a Master's Degree or higher. Singapore has a disproportionate number of Brigadier Generals in the Government who are also scholars. In fact, non-scholars can never hope to become a General in Singapore's military. Ha ... I can remember many of the BGs who flopped when they move from Army to marketplace positions.

Worst here. This stupid bila- or gila-something even says out “I’ll like you to reflect”! Is such word “reflect” is a right way to address to an invited person?

1st time listen to the intro by this Bila-something. Had read his comments on other topics in the media. Even in person, his arrogance is shown very obviously. In this forum, it reflects this arrogance to an extent, even rather disrespectful to Minister Chan.

I was enjoying the insightful dialogue until the matter of government scholars was raised. I wonder if CCS has heard of the saying in MINDEF and the Gov Service that "(government) scholars can do no wrong"? A "B" grade is expected of them, fairly and/or otherwise. There is apparently much "inbreeding" amongst the "scholar class", a HR lecturer from a local university once commented to me in a social event that she's worried about Singapore if this continues much longer. I am from the industry, the things I hear about the policies attributed to government scholars are amusing at times. BUT more worrisome to me is the effect on the morale of "normal" government servants, when scholars are "parachuted" into a Ministry or department and when grades are unfairly awarded (perceived or not). This phenomenon is probably common, since there are so many scholars and I heard from independent sources purely out of coincidence. This effect on morale is not strongly feedback in Minitries' 360 surveys because such "parachutings" happen so often that people are just so tired or too numb to reflect in the survey. If CCS, Bilahari or their staff come across this comment of mine, I hope there'll be some real soul searching within the government scholarship system. Do something about it to make it fair for Singapore's sake. Otherwise, Singapore is in trouble, as CCS rightly pointed out at about minute 51. He also mentioned at minute 52/53 that scholars whom much is given naturally will (or have to) perform better. I afraid this statement has become self-fulfilling since a B grade is almost a given, scholars can indeed do no wrong! I wish to be proven wrong.

For bilahari to discount the wars in middle east is to disrespect the dead! He could say that education is an important agent of change. AND the wars are tragic. Failed

To suggest more funding to the US military is insane. Aside from current US debt of $35 trillion and counting, their military budget is already more than the other top 10 militaries. This book is the work or war mongers.

I think its a conflicting idea altogether. One end you are saying customization education in place of mass education the other end you are saying using education to unite people
@wangjinwen7708
@wangjinwen7708 8 күн бұрын
Dun understand by customization, learn only what you want what you need? Normal education teaches us pushes us beyond our certain boundaries so that we can meet certain standards. Thats why we have engineers, lawyers, doctors, its either do hard or failure. Now with customization, who makes the call to set these standards?

Late bloomers do not stand a chance in a meritocratic system. Many Bill Gates and Steve Jobss have been bypassed, lost, gone, ignored and unnoticed. Here we rate and rank so-called achievers mainly looking at their academic qualifications. A PHD must by smarter than a A level guy. Have seen a A level department head who rose through the ranks proving to be a better overall contributor to the company Some local O level guys who ventured overseas made huge fortune. They kept a low profile. Here parents pushed their children to acquire more and more alphabets after their names so they could be proud of them later on when they land high paying profile cushy-sofa jobs. Many such are on display especially in our public institutions. Meritocracy gives rise to elitism. Rich parents push their children with all sorts of back up tutors to score high marks as opposed to the taxi drivers less tutored children. Education should be open to all and the measuring standards should not be enforced at an early stage. Allow them to mingle and face the hard knocks of living. Let the rich children get toughened up in the realist environment in schools and they would later make for better army generals able to face the tough realities out there Why are we filling up our top jobs with foreign talents? Because our rigid meritocracy system are only good academically minus creativity and dare and hence no match to them.. They are even afraid to raise a family. And we are seriously going down in numbers. About time our meritocratic system needs to be fine-tuned to inject a deeper appreciation of wholesome living and not to fear failings otherwise we will be slowly slipping into mediocre existence.

GAME CHANGER MINDSET and POLICY that positively impact the individuals and communities and businesses as well as social welfare and the nation 1. A nation of 🙋‍♀️ 🙋‍♂️ VOLUNTEERS ( 80 % of the people participating in PART-TIME VOLUNTEERING tied up with FREE TRAVEL INCENTIVES ENTITLEMENTS ) 2. Lower income groups and handicap groups are encouraged to doing part-time volunteering ( in exchange for home-cooked healthfood and contributing towards their other needs ) : a. RECLAIMED their INDEPENDENCE b. Cultivating GAME CHANGER MINDSET c. Realising change your thinking change your life ✨️ positively Currently the practice of giving free groceries and cooked food to needy individuals and families are a showcase of SUPERFICIAL and QUANTITATIVE so call kindness But not at all healing them mentally and physically as well as spiritually

Why have social mobilities got anything to do with scholarship? i thought Singapore should be based on meritocracy? Thought MOE have always say should be outcome based? How can only scholars be given the chance and not those who are non-scholars? Already this is not fair and how can this be meritocratic?

Middle East can be a peaceful region as long as US government behaves sensibly and refrains from stirring internal problems. One of the key things the US government can do for the sake of peace in the Middle-east as well as other parts of the world is NOT to sell military weapons and military technology to other countries. Can US government do that? Obviously and deliberately NO. Why? US government has no interest at all to witness the world at peace despite the usual cliche such as "United States is committed to defending democracy and the free world to ensure peace......blah, blah, blah" uttered by many key American politicians including Presidents; Secretaries of State; etc Very often, American government and its undisciplined media would not hesitate to create LIES and stir internal trouble to justify United States intervention, covert and /or overt. For example, US government continuously smears China to justify the creation of AUKUS; to justify establishment of NATO presence in Asia; etc. Unfortunately Asia has Eunuch-like governments of Japan under PM Kishida; of South Korea under President Yoon and of Philippines under President Marcos. The decisions of these three Eunuch-like Asian Heads of State in toeing the US government's line will bring trouble to Asia. US government is definitely eyeing Thailand as its next sphere of influence. Asia is under Threat and the Threat is United States of America.
