Yes, Banger racing is dangerous. One good thing is that in the 40 years that racing occurred at Arena Essex there were no fatalities even though we kept ambulances available and they got used. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for every circuit and that's the reason why the ORC insists on signage warning of the danger as well as plenty of safety regulations including how the cars are built, what the drivers wear, what the promoter is expected to supply in a meeting as well as training for all trackside staff. Even non-ORC circuits take such precautions for obvious reasons.

Still brings It all back some 4 odd years ago now.. I raced on the very first meeting at ARENA right up till the 1986 Banger world Final, but in that period of time I also raced Mini rods, Anglia Rods, Bangers and Stox, loved them all, but a "sorted" cortina with one of my race motors in it, was the best feeling ever.. Glad I raced, I with many others I met In the 4 different formulas.. We all have to stop racing at some point, the 1998BWF for me was that point I guess, I just had enough.. I just needed time off from racing but once that magic had gone It never came back.. - It happens I guess. - But thanks for the memories.
