Do you carry your fieldnotes in any kind of cover? What pocket do you carry them in?

Lukas: You say you use HB rather than anything softer because you like to press hard and achieve a dark line that way. I prefer much softer leads, and in fact veer towards 4B in my mechanical pencils, for the luxurious feel and darkness of result. But a transfer of marks is inevitable when writing on the verso, unless I use a paper-guard in between the leaves. Do you find you get this phenomenon with HB?

I like notebooks and have used a lot of them. My favs are Moleskine Reporter, small Apica and Field Notes. I use Travelers notebooks for my nightly journal. I've tried to get my stepson hooked on Field Notes. I just subscribed to Field Notes so looks like it's time for a new system. Thanks for a great channel!

I have some vintage mechanical pencils. They tend to use much thicker leads. Also, the Field Notes pencils are nice. I use those for sketching.

I believe Sydney is using a small A7 notebook, likely moleskine Volant, in an OLPR cover. It comes with a pen very similar to the one we see in the show.

I'm interested in your personal opinion of lines vs grid/graph/blank. I am using a lined FN now and not enjoying the format so I started carrying around my "next up" August book already. I didn't consider that I could "wear it in" ahead of starting to use it. It made me feel clever and validated to see you carry a book ahead and give an actual reason for it!

I saw a couple of the black & silver TUL brand pens 6:39. I buy way too many pens. My favorite is the Zebra Sarasa Grand in vintage colors. Also Uni-ball one in 0.38. I just received the Tombow Mono 100 from Amazon by your recommendation, very good pencil.

Having tried the original EF BW, Monos and Unis, I, to my great regret financially, never bought a second box of BWs. They were cool looking, love the silver paint, but just didn't write any better. I think, at the time, they were cheaper than the Japanese ones. I didn't love the BW eraser, though I'm happy, as a collector/user to have something different. I missed out, or was skeptical of, the new pseudo-blackwings. They are highest quality pencils, but IMHO the right grade of Uni or Tombow is as good or better. It's just Japanese vs German lead. For an ideal user pencil, I've settled on the Tombow 8900. If I want an eraser, something Pentel, either a cap or the clic.
@BlankFirstPage6 күн бұрын
Thanks for that insight. What about the 8900 do you like? I was looking at getting a box of them to compare, also got a few Mitsu-bishi pencils to test against. What's your comparison of the 8900 vs the Mono 100?
@radellaf4 күн бұрын
@@BlankFirstPage The highest end Uni/Tombow are just a little too smooth for my taste, and i like the feel of the paint better. There are so many coats of black on the 100 that it almost doesn't feel like wood. I do like the end-cap on the 100 vs the bare 8900, but I can always put on my own decorations.
@BlankFirstPage4 күн бұрын
@radellaf interesting- I’ll have to compare the two

@@BlankFirstPage Won't set you back much. Honestly, I've enjoyed trying a variety of Japanese brands more than any particular pencil. Most of them are quite good.

Thanks for the great tip, I'm always looking for good pens. I recently bought two Uni Power Tank 1.0 with each blue and black ink from Mitsubishi, and was pleasantly surprised (even though I usually don’t like plastic pens). The refills are pressurized, and should therefore work under most conditions.
