@@brianbrotherston5940 I think Naxos....at present has like 8 orchestras/conductors in their catalog doing Haydn. I think there is much there to both enjoy, and then dismiss. I will seek out Beecham's.

@@rutgervangestel I know in Fischer's case it's because he's already done a MASSIVE Haydn cycle already for another label (Brilliant? Not sure). But honestly....did any of them do ALL the symphonies? Because it's darn confusing as some groups duplicated and some didn't.

David Hurwitz has rated several individual performances very highly, even though I gather he considers the project as a whole somewhere on the thin border separating “obsessive” from “insane.” I’ve ordered mine, as the price seems “Naxos fair.”

He'll say that having multiple versions is stupid. That the differences between them are negligible, not "significant" as the marketing might lead you to believe. That the performances are all that should matter, not the reams of scholarly essays that accompany them. That this kinds of project is just masturbation for academics and irrelevant to average listeners.

Fischer is a pianist not a Violinist but I love the sound and dynamic contrast he gets from the Strings I was fooled.
