this is really nice. I want to make this too. Do you remember the weight of clay for the lid, please? I like the way to talk during your video's. And thanks to Jim for the nice views. 🙂

I am sorry, I don't remember the weight of the clay for the lid. I haven't made a casserole in a while. It must be about 700 to 800 grams....maybe....I would go with too much clay when making a lid. You can always just cut it down to the right size. That is easier than trying to stretch it out to fit. Thanks for watching, thanks for your kind words, and thanks for the question.

Do you know how many pounds of clay you used?

I think it was about 4 pounds. I made that dish a while ago. Casseroles now are 2000 grams, or 4.5 pounds. Thanks for watching!

Can you use 105 clay ?
@theclayteacher4 жыл бұрын
You can use any clay you like, but a higher fire cone 6 - 10 clay will stand up to kitchen use better. I am just showing the technique. Thanks for watching.

Ok I have a quick question can I bake it in the oven and if I can what degree and how long ❤️
@theclayteacher4 жыл бұрын
You need to bake it in a kiln. An oven made for firing clay. I fire my pottery to 2200F. It takes about 24 hours to reach 2200F and another 24 hours before the kiln is cool enough to open.

It is so wonderful to see you back on KZfaq. Your instruction process makes it so easy to follow. By the way, last week I reviewed your previous videos and came across stacking pasta bowls (from 3 years ago). I LOVE that you give dimensions as you move thru the piece, I followed the process and came out with 8 stacking Pasta Bowls. As I posted pictures, they sold. Thanks Cindy. Pls do more videos ! !

Thanks to your tutorials, I bought the correct clay from a proper clay supplier in UK, and spent a morning at school with key worker's children before the Easter holidays making a variety of gorgeous objects. The children loved your mantras : 'Roll on the table, work on the paper' and ' Wet and wiggle and twist and stick ' . I have attached the link to your tutorials to our art planning at school so that other teachers can learn form you to teach clay modelling. If anyone in the UK needs to buy quality clay, I did a lot of research and found a supplier called www.hot-clay.com It's much better than the usual school clay which is full of nylon and impossible for children to manipulate. This stuff cut like a block of butter. As The Clay Teacher said, it is really cheap and the children had lots of FUN!! We didn't have acrylic paint so just used ready make poster paint which still worked well. Thank you for your lovely videos .

If you put pieces that have dried uneven in a plastic tote that has been partialy filled 3 inches with plaster of paris that has been soaked with water you can rehydrate clay pieces then straighted and redry

Cindy and Jim, I feel a void has been filled because you are back! YAY!!! Dropping the teaching group will give you a great sense of relief and allow peace to creep back into your clay work. Guid luck! Looking forward to more videos and chit chat...... I am having fun throwing and now single firing with 8 under my belt. Without a blow up yet, and the firings taking less than 9 hours to reach cone 5. No preheat as I make sure that all pots are dry before going into the kiln. Now have a website to help promote my mission of moving my pots without starting a business......having fun in Florida. www.freddiespottery.com Hope you both are well and warm!

We shot some more video that will be up ... soon...We talked more about mugs, I showed an easy way to make a plate, and threw some combination clay pots. I had a look at your website. Great little studio and what a wonderful thing to do with all your pots. Your donations to the local hospices are more than generous. Way to go! Thanks for watching and your continued support. Hi, Thank You for such an easy to follow tutorial! What sort of clay is used,...?
@theclayteacher5 жыл бұрын
I use regular clay that can be fired purchased from a pottery supply store. It has a bit of grit or tooth to it so it stands up to sculpting and drys evenly without much breaking. I use the Plainsman Buffstone, but a local supplier could provide you with a good school clay.

Do you trim the bottom of your mugs after you put the handles on?
@theclayteacher5 жыл бұрын
Sorry it took soooo long for me to see and answer this, but no, I don't trim my mugs at all. I run my thumb along the bottom before I put the handle on and that's it. I do most of my trimming when I throw the mug.

Thanks for sharing especially the leveling....my facial hair grows stronger on one side so I feel my pots are good if they reflect that type of character. Good looking pot without the handles.
@theclayteacher6 жыл бұрын
Many potters are just a little unbalanced... I was surprised at how not level that section was. It was level when I threw it, but as I said, it did kick around the studio for a while before shooting. It was bumped, banged and moved about. The pot does get handles eventually. There is one more video coming with a conclusion to the series. You can let me know if you like the handles, or not. I wasn't sure about them. Still not, but they are on there now. I had to borrow clay to finish it.

Hi, I throw the neck right on the combined base & belly, from a thrown cylinder that is the right diameter at the top to flip and add to the belly, easy to continue the line and complement the shape. So many ways to do this, as in all throwing. Awesome series! Karen

When I am alone, I only use one camera. There is more video coming and you will see the difference. The other cameras are picky. They can only shoot for 12 minutes and then have to shut down, they need a white balance, and are most definitely a job for Super Jim.
