I feel she's kinda similar to Jupe from Nope in a way for some reason, which is interesting to think about considering themes of exploitation I see in common with both of these two very different things. And esp seeing how you can see em have in common with how you understand what they have to cope with, however whatever they built around it as a way of coping made it more worse around other people they're with. Def a kinda tragedy I see in common for some reason.

That's such a good comparison and an important one too: that sometimes how a person copes with their trauma can end up having a ripple effect that hurts others in the end.

I see Edie as both a victim of history and accident of birth, as well as a destructive force and unwitting catalyst for the disaster. By the end, Edie the younger’s journal is already continuing the cycle, if what we see in the final scene, with the boy in the graveyard with a cast on his arm is any indication. Very good video all around. I admire your attention to detail.

It's such a sad cycle that the family has been in for such a long time. Hopefully without the influence of the generations before him, the young boy will break that cycle.

Love this video 😍 I'd love to hear peoples theories aswell!! My current fav is that the kids don't just become people in the tow (six becomes the bathhouse lady for example) but they become the actual place they inhabit. So for example six becomes a bottomless pit of hunger, one could say a gaping maw. Or Mono, the one who's always alone and watching others becomes the TV tower. Not just the tall man inside. Like maybe that world needs these special kids with physic powers to actually build the world they live in and trap all these adults inside

I'm so glad to still see people covering this game and it's story! I loved your interpretation of it. And suggesting Edie may have even gotten so obsessed with that attention she grew up with that she pushed Barbara to seek out that fame again makes so much sense. It always felt like she tried to live through her family members and their tragic death stories were no exception. Thank you for your video!🥰

I absolutely loved your narration. Your analysis really captured the complexity of Edie's personality and her controversial role within the Finch family. I found your point about her obsession with memorializing the deceased particularly intriguing. It made me think about how Edie's actions, while seemingly neglectful, could be seen as her way of coping with so much loss and tragedy. I love you encouraged us to experience the stories firsthand to understanding each character's fate. Can't wait for more of your videos :D

I am so jealous of your creativity and unique optics you bring into playing these games! You do an incredible job describing ideas and concepts that I would find impossible to describe to others effectively. I myself find it difficult to slow down and focus on these in-between places one finds in games, but I have been putting a lot of effort in regaining this scope of enjoyment. When I was much younger, I adored sitting and just looking at the game world I was in. One example being Fallout New Vegas, I was fascinated and in love with the atmosphere that game provided, and I have fond memories of just looking out at the barren wasteland, observing the crops that the locals were growing, and being enamored with the tall mountains out in the distance. I find that so difficult nowadays for some reason, I can't load up Fallout New Vegas and gander at that landscape in the same way, even if I can appreciate it for other things now. One example of how I am taking things slower now is how I approached playing Fallout 2. It's a much older entry in the series and is a classic role-playing game in an isometric view many find to be too difficult or unappealing to play. As I made decisions, I went out of my way to see the reactions of alllll the NPC's I could before I would move on, or I would come back later and see how things had changed. I would do these things even if sometimes they would have no reaction, or even if it would tack on 5-15 minutes of traveling and exploring just to do it. Thanks for making this video im going to try Jusant when I get the chance.
@pixelpondering

I appreciate your kind words and I think you articulated your thoughts beautifully! Yeah, it's amazing how much we can miss when we are trying to just get through the game. Especially big games like the Fallout ones where there is so much do and so many things to focus on at once. But there is something rewarding about doing something as simple as watching the NPCs do all of their NPC things...I do that too. I'm always watching them until they loop around or they run out of things to say. It's nice that you're finding the enjoyment in that once again...and I hope you like Jusant. It was one of those games that I didn't expect to enjoy as much as I did but everyone who has played it seems to really like it. Short and sweet!

I honestly do tend to run through areas in a majority of games, however on occasion I do like taking in the environmental storytelling and “flavor text” if it’s a game that really draws me into the setting. I think if it seems thought out I’m more inclined to take in the environment, but if it seems random or just done as filler with no real world continuity attached, then I’ll run through. I think indie games are much better at making environments worth exploring and taking in as they’re made by a small team, or even one person, that genuinely cares about the world being built and the stories it’s trying to tell.

The thrill of overcoming failure is an extremely empowering feeling and one of the things I think makes Soulslike games so popular, the bosses are difficult, even regular enemies are difficult, but not impossible. Oddly these games (not sure about Hollow Knight) don’t give a reward for defeating the boss, there’s usually no weapon or power or ability, just a few more souls than a standard enemy, a message letting you know you were successful, and the ability to progress. The victory over defeat is the reward, it’s akin to the eureka moment of solving a challenging puzzle. It’s a euphoric feeling that certain video games are able to provide that few other mediums can.

Euphoria is definitely a reward in and of itself!

I wonder if they’ll utilize Noone and/or Jester in 3 or keep them as their own separate story strictly for Sounds of Nightmares. It’s an interesting concept to take a game that relies purely on visuals with no spoken words and have a parallel story in the same universe that relies purely on spoken words and no visuals. Was unaware they’d done something like that and enjoyed your analysis of it with comparisons of what we saw in the games themselves (including the point and click game Very Little Nightmares which I also didn’t know existed until now). Excellently done!

I get the feeling this is more of a fun extra and not a full tie in to the main games. Sorta how the kids in the comics weren't full tie ins (however some of them did appear as sorta ghosts, so they weren't totally neglected).

I've been trying to branch out to other games and experiences outside of my comfort zone recently through gamepass. Playing Gris gave me chills, it was a truly breathtaking experience. Your analysis of it was so beautifully written and thought out. I've never really seen Gris be talked about or mentioned before I played it so I didn't have any expectations going in besides to try something new. So glad to see this pop up, the analysis was very in-depth and I like that you did research to confirm real life events and people that occurred in the game and gave some additional background on them. As far as the game itself (which I haven’t personally played) I did like the double meaning behind the book and chapter names. I also liked seeing the blue mushrooms sprouting on the tree and the ash plume that was growing over a fire. As ever, incredibly well done!

This is an incredible breakdown of the story! I picked up on a number of things in my playthrough, mainly the broader themes, and that the plants & what makes them thrive seemed to hold a lot of symbolism. But I felt like understanding all the deeper layers and historical references would take me another revisit or two to fully appreciate. You've unpacked so much more than I realized was woven into the game, and I'm really excited to revisit it with this knowledge. The game resonated with me so much, but I feel even more personally connected to it after watching this. The writing is really exceptional, especially with how it's all delivered through the gameplay. That ending was just pitch perfect, too. Thanks for putting this together and sharing it with us Botany Manor fans!

Man, this was such a great game. Visually it's already beautiful with the hand drawn look, the colors building up, the unique worlds and great animation...But the story and meaning behind it really makes it such an amazing game. It really hits hard if you've just lost someone, especially a child. I believe it was about someone losing their child, likely before birth, and dealing with stages of grief after the fact. I just discovered your channel thanks to your Cocoon lore video (which I really enjoyed, congrats!), then I landed here cause Hollow Knight is one of my favorite games ever and the video's title caught my curiosity. I must say you really catpured the soul of this game, that is perseverance and dedication. The more you dig in the game's gameplay mechanics and the enemies and bosses combat patterns, the more skillful you become. Everything is doable in this game if you are determined enough to learn! I want to narrate an experience similar to yours (and to many others that approached this particular game): when I finished the game and ventured in the Godmaster DLC i felt overwhelmed by the difficulty of the latter challenges (I won't spoil what they are) and I thought it was impossible for me to overcome those, thus i quitted for some time ... But after a while I decided to come back into the game, and with a lot of training and dedication I finally managed to achieve the unachievable by beating those challenges! It was one of the most satisfactory moments of my gaming career! That being said, I hope you can keep on going in this splendid journey (if you like the game of course) trying to surpass your capacities each time you feel stuck, until you reach the end 😎🤟 Cheers!

I was so engrossed in the puzzles I legit just didn't notice half of the details you mentioned. Excellent video and analysis. I have to wonder what the point of the cycle is. The worlds and their technologies are abandoned, so did the PC inherit a dead world to govern? If so, what happened to the previous god? Why was the cocoon activated to begin with? Is this a life cycle thing or a special ritual? If you fail, does someone take your place or do the worlds just die off? The devs really put so much mystique and intrigue into such a small package.

Believe me, most of the details I didn't notice until I reviewed my game footage. Like you, I was so engrossed in the puzzles! Usually I'm okay with one off games, but I'm really hoping for a sequel for this one. I have the same questions too! I think this game left us with more questions than answers. It would be nice for them to do a prequel and the end of the prequel is right at the start of this one. Another part of the cycle!
