This is why you have to take all these offensive numbers of today with a grain of salt. You can't defend someone with illegal handles. defense is being phased out of NBA basketball.

AI and IT definitely CARRIED THE BALL!! It is simple...hand cannot go under the ball or palm the ball or on the side to cuff the ball while dribbling!!

I never understood till I saw a video. Half screen shows what the rule book says and the other half AI crossing over. After that o can’t unseen it. I feel bad because I hated on Hardaway for saying that it was a carry. Like kids today hate when ol heads call travel.

It's all streetball now. Like to see someone show either how these same violations were being made, with no whistle through the decades. Stats and records, now, only have meaning amongst the time period when the rules were mutual

It needs to be called all the time. I don’t care if it’s AI. That’s how it becomes consistent. Then defenders have a fair chance. You can’t be scoring 50 - 60 points because you cheated. Viewers want to see good defense as well. It’s not entertaining watching cheaters. True basketball fans don’t want to see that shit.

Some people just don't like rules. Personally I undersatnd the rules are there for a reason, and the game is better for it. Refs need to do their jobs. If there is going to be some kind of unspoken agreement that certain rules aren't going to be enforced, then just do away with those rule and stop pretending. Why even dribble in the first place? Just let players run with the ball. We're almost there anyway. Screw the rules. Put trampolines on the court for added excitement. If a game goes into overtime, have a dance-off to decide the winner, or a gang fight. Make it an all-out free for all circus. Give the people what they want.

FYI, the Jordan Poole spin wasn’t a carry. Hand was on top half of the ball and was floated before he spun. Legit awesome move. Just because something looks different, doesn’t make it wrong

If you Don't call it The carry will become Longer and by then you might as well just let them Run with the ball. RULES! Without them it's a just a Free for all! At that point, you Don't Need Referees only security!

The only way this can be fixed is if the refs start enforcing this rule in high school and college. The same goes for travelling which seems to happen several times a game with no call by the refs.

Just FYI players have been pumping and jumping into a defender decades before Wade. Earl the Pearl was famous for it, for one

A hesitation dribble and a carry are both illegal. They both fall under the umbrella of travelling. They just dont get called which is why people think they are legal to do. It is like the people that think that going 5 miles over the speed limit is legal because the cops dont pull people over for it. Technically cops can pull you over for going 1 mile over the speed limit.

Isaiah @ 4:53 mark dribbled, switched the ball in his hands from left to his right hand without dribbling and then continued dribbling. That's a suspension of his dribble and a double dribble violation.🤷♂

One thing that every person here must remember is that the problem is the officiating and not the players. If officials call them consistently, players could adapt and adjust to that. Players play by the rules they are at.

Iverson did not put his hand under the ball or bring the ball to rest. He put his hand on the side of the ball. Isaiah Thomas did put his hand under the ball. NBA refs caught on and started calling it.

It’s a dumb call. Language for the rule needs to be updated. As long as the ball isn’t resting it should not be a carry. Meaning if you are using the momentum of the ball to maintain its position in your hand it’s not a carry. It’s entertainment. There are much worse issues with the NBA rules right now.
@dataphoenix80043 ай бұрын
but people say players are better these days why change the rules to make it easier if they are better

When I actively played basketball, there was a ball handeling rule: While dribbling the ball, man In possession of the ball, "the dribbling hand, can not break a 90° vertical plan... other wise that individual will be called for a carry/travel". Now that would really break the NBA. Plus, the "lean in foul", should've never existed. And obvious flops should be an automatic, technical

That's why offenses are up, when you used to put your hand under the ball you had 2 options shoot or pass now they can continue the dribble
@omnivorous655 ай бұрын
It is quite simple and depends on the position of your hand on the ball. Once you hand is under the ball, palm up you are literally carrying. It is the only way to pause for extended period of time without the ball dropping on the floor. Call it. Call it consistently. Players would adjust. Brief them that carrying is no longer tolerated and they quickly adapt. As a fan it really pisses me off when the rules are arbitrarily not being enforced.
@kyle3810005 ай бұрын
Rather than learning how to be better at breaking the rules, why don't the focus on being better dribblers. Carrying the ball is a carryover (no pun intended) from street ball. It may look good, but it's cheating. Period. Pete Maravich never carried the ball, and he was the best dribbler in NBA history.
