I was born 73 abbotstown road finglas west my family was Mrs Finn ( my great granny) and Mrs Chris Mitchell ( my nan) my mum was her eldest daughter she moved us to the Isle of Man when we were small but every Easter and summer holidays we went back to stay at my nannies until I finally moved back in my late teens early twenties. I lived for every Easter and summer to go back over as would always miss it and all my family and friends. I live in Kent now but really miss finglas and the community we were brought up in. It’s been lovely to look back through photos, Thank you 😊 you can take the girl out of Finglas but you’ll never take Finglas out of the girl 🤍

@@albundy4493 yes I remember. I’ve done ok went on to have 4 beautiful boys. Miss nana and mam though and Karl, Alan and Sharon. Miss the days going over to see them was gutted when mam finally moved from there. I went over a good few times when my oldest boy was little before she passed away. My youngest 3 have never been over but I want them to see where I come from and their family history. I hope your keeping well and life is treating you good 😊

*_It seems in Ireland [maybe most of Europe], you had a Church, then the village grows outward from this. I grew up in Finglas west much later than this period. In the U.S. you will find a McDonald's or Dunkin Donuts on each main junction & the cop cars will sit in here. It makes sense, so they can access any part of town quickly from this junction but it's too easy to make fun of all the patrol cars parked in Dunkin Donuts._* 🤣 ☘🐎🙏❤🤍💙🙏🐎☘

*_What i can't figure out is if you're looking at the Celtic cross, just inside the graveyard gate [Gate beside Mrs. Lynch's bungalow at _**_2:52_**_ ] well the white building on the left would be in the middle of Wellmount road opposite the entrance to the Spanish nuns. So is Wellmount road much newer than these pics?_* ☘🐎🙏❤🤍💙🙏🐎☘

I turned 61 on June 19. 2021. Born in Hollis St Hospital, raised in a wonderful warm and loving family, and educated by mostly fabulous teachers in Finglas West. Thank you for the superb montage of photos, and the wonderfully apt sound track. I don't possess a time machine, but they were the next best thing. I lament for my daughter's and grandchildren. I know and believe they will live live happy and fulfilling lives, but. They will never know what it was like to live the most innocent of lives and years. Thank you to all my family, neighbours, teachers, school palls and friends. What a time. No Social Media. No Cell Phones, no reality TV. No facile distractions. Just real relationships with real people. I will not claim they were all sweet and pleasant, but. They were all all real and direct one on one.. Thank you to all who were part of my growing up in a special time and place. Looking back there are very few things I would change.😘🤝🙏

Great video. I went to the De La Salle in the late sixties. The Deela. We would be marched down to St Canice's two by two to confess our sins to the priest in those confession boxes. Scary! My mum worked for years in Everite jewellers next to super Quinn I used to get a little summer job there when I was in school putting the stuff in the window in the morning and writing up the watch repairs and putting them in little brown envelopes. Loved it. Butch Moore was a great singer. His mum and dad lived on our street.

I like many others invaded Finglas West in the 60´s. I moved from old Cabra West . I was a young teenager and had just left Primary School and went on to St Michael´s. The move was necessary after the death of my Mam. So on a personal level it was a historical move but for the Finglasers it must have seemed as if the heart of finglas was torn out by these new comers. For those Finglasers who opened up their hearts to us, I thank thee and may Finglas go down in History.

Hello, i'm writing a book about living, growing up and working in finglas in the 60s,its based on a 13 year old young fellas experienes and his first job working as a milkmans helper in Merville Daries. Its a funny lighthearted story. i would love to hear from people who worked there around that time and share in their funny and amusing stories to put into the book and maybe some old photographs of around the same era and any stories about the woolands on the Finglas. Looking forward to some feedbacks. Thanks.
