Sparkman & Stephens design #1948.1 "Meri-Mari" L-120, built and skippered by Eino "Eikka" Antinoja, participated on it's first season 1968 in the One Ton Cup regatta in Helgoland. This video is based on 8mm film material filmed during the delivery trip to Helgoland and the regatta. 8mm film by Raimo Kuivalainen 1968. Digital edit by Jyri Kuivalainen 2017.

Sorry to say my father Raimo passed away two months ago. There are not too many people in this film alive, you can reach my mother through me.

What a beautiful boat and such a great story. Thankyou for sharing. From a time when boats looked and sailed so well. Sparkman and Stephens really were superb yacht designers. I hope this boat has survived, is still being enjoyed and sailed as often as possible.

Thank's for the kind words. I did this for my father, I will pass this message to him. As far as I know, Meri-Mari is in Helsinki and doing just excellent in our annual wooden boat regattas. S&S still rules. Br, Jyri

Hi Jyri, you are most welcome. It really was a special film about a special boat. I am sure it would have meant a lot to your father. It is wonderful to know that Meri-Mari is still being sailed and enjoyed. We too have a fantastic wooden boat festival here in Hobart every second year. Its aligned with the Port Townsend wooden boat festival in Maine, US. Attending these festivals was the catalyst for me getting into sailing and the desire to own my own boat, one day. I would love a S&S. They sure do rule. There was a superb S&S boat, called Dorade, built back in the 1930s which competed in this year's Sydney to Hobart race. She too is special. Cheers Dave

Beautiful, I recognized, Belita, Dutch Tina from Jopie Breyell, Britton Chance from cookies Mr de beukelaere, now in France Morningtown, watch the restoration project in Holland Rasbora, alu huysman Van de stadt Mr Moorkens now rotting in Nieuwpoort Blue hull plastic gaastra sails lookalike Tina sailed by Andre Nelis? Red Tina, Chris Bouzaid,New zealand, winner Rainbow or Wai Aniwa? Optimist Beilken? Great times,although i was a kid, these boats gathered later in Breskens. Cheers.
