I asked B&H Will the gh7 record 4channel 32bit float w this xlr2? The reply is Technically, yes, it's 4 channels (two XLR, plus the stereo input). Unfortunately though, it can only record up to 24-bit, not 32-bit. Regarding a manual, from what I can find, one is not published yet as this is a new item that has yet to be released. Please let me know if you require any further assistance. Thank you for choosing B&H. So i asked to clarirfy and received Thank you for contacting the Sales Department at B&H Photo Video and Pro Audio. Since this XLR adapter can only handle up to 24-bit, even though the GH7 is capable of 32-bit float, all that would pass through to the camera is 24-bit. Please let me know if you require any further assistance. Thank you for choosing B&H. So i sent a message asking how to get 32 bit float and waiting for a reply. Am i missing something or misunderstanding . Do you need something else besides Gh7 w DMW-XLR2 and a mic and memory card correct? So confused
@photojoseph12 сағат бұрын
That person is wrong. My video is right; it’s been vetted by Panasonic and everything stated in there I personally tested as well. You can capture 32-bit float on all four channels using the XLR2.

I have not tried that drive. All I can really recommend is trying another drive, or at minimum a different cable, although that's not likely the issue, assuming you're using the cable that came with the drive. Actually if the drive _didn't_ come with a cable, and you're using whatever you had laying around, that's likely the issue. Not all USB-C cables are the same; make sure it's a high speed data cable. Living in the former empire of Kodak Inc. (Roch-cha-cha NY :^), I say vintage optics man. It's all just glass that, transmits and refracts light, metal coatings on all lens/air surfaces. The photons don't care and quite frankly neither do the sensors. As you say another tool in the tool chest, another color on the pallet for "expression".

For my purposes I like using a USB battery to power my Panasonic S5 and my external monitor. They both have their own internal batteries, just in case a cable gets unplugged, neither of them will completely shut off. Thanks Joseph, nice to see the difference in features, size etc but would have been great to see an actual usage review. Which is more stable, which has more flex, which fares best in winds, which fares better on uneven ground. At the end of the day those are the things which really matter. I have a K&F carbon fibre travel tripod which folds smaller than either of those and is just a few grams heavier than the Freewell and extends to 158cm. I'm looking to upgrade but although its important to know the features and differences, it really helps to see the performance
@markr0418 күн бұрын
Useful roundup of features, and what needs the camera fulfills. But that lens! It is useless for video because it does not even have a front filter thread. So, no ND possible. Yes, I believe in 180 rule, and shooting V Log at 640 ISO in bright sunlight requires an ND. f8 is too open! In the US, a preorder of the S9 gets you the pancake lens for free. At that price, the lens is still not worthwhile for me! I will pass on the lens even for free. I will use the S9 as a miniature S5 ii for video, which is its best use. Obviously, more compact FF lenses are needed. And, if we are wishing, power zooms. Panasonic is all in for video in its cameras, but not in its lens offerings.
@photojoseph8 күн бұрын
Definitely not a video lens
@markr0418 күн бұрын
@photojoseph Yet, clearly the touted use (appropriately) for the camera is video! The lens is a bad joke. It is there to make the camera look compact. And asking the mode user of this camera, sold on its ease of use, to manually focus is absurd. Hyperfocal distance calculations for those used to shooting with phones, really? I really like the S9, and am shocked at that lens fakery.

Thank you for this. One issue with this might be that if you manage your Lightroom catalog by importing to various different directories on your drive (as opposed to "folders" within LRc,) , you'd have to change the auto import settings with each shoot. Say you do product shots, portraits, and landscapes, and want to manage them in different directories, you'd need to set up the import target at each shoot. Something I'd be likely to forget to do. And then I'd have a mess. Am I incorrect?
@photojoseph8 күн бұрын
This is many years old but yeah that sounds right. Picking a destination for your shoot should be standard practice though, not an inconvenience.
