Spacex shouldn't try to catch a booster until a second launch tower is built, a redundancy that would be appreciated if the first catch step doesn't work out

I think the redesign of the hot staging ring is to remove the need to jettison it, but am sure they will continue to use it as a temporary fix for the time being. they want a fully reusable rocket if they had to jettison part of it every flight they would just have a partially reusable one

I'm just a casual viewer of SpaceX's wonderful achievements. I have always wondered if they could apply some sort of heat shield paint or spray that they could apply over top of the tiles. That might help keep them from falling off and give a little more protection. It would burn away and let the tiles do the job that they were intended to do. The main point is to keep tiles from falling off because a spray/paint/foam/whatever would have no gaps an act like a protective shield.

SpaceX is running against itself in its own course. What se should be aware of is that they mastered the power of chance, therefore It is reasonable to think next launch to be after data from flight 4 is analysed. Could be in two weeks or two months. Who carnes ? The importar thing is the step forward, the "giant leap". Cheers you all.

I would submit, the second towers construction and implementation would be a major factor, if catching booster on #5 is projected.

I don’t understand how they can accelerate to 26,000 mph in space yet they can’t slow down before re-entry, like turn the ship round to use the same engine to slow it down!

They need a big electromagnetic field generator to splay the plasma so it doesn’t interact with key areas. Problem is to make the field strong enough will require a lot of current. And to get a strong enough field may need super conducting magnets that will get too hot unless cooled with lox.

Rather a silly comment about Orion's heat shield being in a worse condition than Starship after Flight 4. The Orion heat shield did not allow any burn through, and did not fail - it was merely more damaged than had been expected, delaying the next flight. Orion, after just two flights into space, is in much better condition than Starship.

China genuinely achieves its goals, like Nike's "Just Do It," whereas the USA faked its lunar landing in a Hollywood studio, which is why the Chinese found no trace of an American visit to the moon.

Given the company's antecedents for exceptional innovation I suspect it entirely possible SpaceX could fabricate the dirigible control surfaces referred to as 'flaps' almost completely out of solid if reinforced heat shield material. The revised structures might not be any heavier than the present design which is evidently comprised of some sort of stainless steel primary substrate comparable to the remainder of the vehicle. Should degradation to the control surfaces continue to occur during re-entry then the extent to which that might affect functionality for the structures could be less likely to be critical prior to completion of transit through that particular phase and affected structures could be simply and probably rapidly replaced.

Starship has no need of a 'runway' as it is not designed to sustain horizontal flight and as such is designed and intended to land in a vertical posture.
