Thanks for your honest review, I've been thinking about getting one, I expect I'd mostly use it in the house while streaming from my main PC and then on the occasional long journeys i take. But the more I think about it, the more I think it would be completely pointless to spend that much money on something that I can game for an hour on long journeys and use meters away from my PC. I do have a switch, which to be fair kept me pretty sane on the few long-haul 10 hour flights I was on this year. Red Dead Redemption and Doom, both at like 30fps, but the thing lasted a huge amount of my flight time. I know this would be a bad purchase, but 99% of reviews are positive, and you know for sure that most of these shills stuck that shit in a draw and haven't used it in months.

Arent you afraid of this someday failling after 2 years warranty? Due to the biggest con of it being the ram is soldered onto the motherboard. I aint fan of in general newer consumer electronics when things like ram are soldered onto the motherboard

Most things are typical PC gaming shortcomings. The Fans are loud but my OG Steam Deck is worse. I love gaming on my Ally on the couch or anywhere in my house. I’m a tinkerer and quite enjoy windows now even though I’m a Mac and UNIX guy by heart.

I have SX and PS5 but my main computer is a Mac so I was looking for something that I could play windows games or MnK shooters that has no support for MnK on consoles and for that the Ally do the job just fine, I plug into the dock and all my peripherals are already connected to a hub with an USB switch so I can move from the Ally to my console with one click, it’s brilliant. But the best part of it is for emulation on the go, you can run using really low wattage and the battery last quite long and paired with a good power bank you can have a blast. Runs all the way to switch, ps3 and so on, plenty of power for it. I feel your issues but maybe your needs are more directed to a gaming laptop than a handheld, you will definitely have a better time with a laptop, but to be honest most of the problems you mentioned is related to windows in general, so although the laptop will be better in some areas, any issues based on windows will remain.

I recently got the ROG ally and I also got a xg mobile 3080 to pair it with. The cost was pretty steep, but was able to get it way cheaper than retail. It has replaced my desktop pc and outperforms it. Not a huge feat considering it was a 5 year old pc and mid tier at the time. With the dock, the ally is night and day and runs flawlessly. The versatility to take it on the go as well has been amazing.

I feel this video in my soul. I have a really bad habit of buying products, which are mostly tech, that i think will make me happy. I got my rog ally like... 8 hours ago. The device is amazing. Its so cool to have windows 11 in a handheld. I got it all set up, fired up devil may cry 5 and started playing. My first thought was "Wow, this is so neat, this is so cool!" After about 45 minutes to an hour i then thought to myself "man this would be so cool if this was 4k 120 hz, at max settings, also my neck is kind of starting to hurt from looking down at this thing". I look at my high end pc, and my tv with exactly those specs, and back to my rog ally and lastly thought "*Sigh* why did i do this". Im going to see if i can return it, and try to learn a lesson from this.

I feel like everyone is regreting buying tech these days because you are paying way more than the tech is actually worth. I mean in australia you will pay $1300 AUD for the ally and its just not worth it for what your getting.

Bro, i am the opposite. After 6 Months i can tell you Rog Ally i forget about ps5 and laptop. You need configurr the fan with customize profile with Armony Create. Rog Ally is the best device I never buied. Much better the Ally i can play everywhere. I don't have the time to play on the desk. It is very limited

just sell it, is not for you because windows tinkering is too much for you and some issue is game related that have nothing to do with the ally that problem will still exist on laptop or desktop pc. stick with console like nintendo switch no more tinkering for you

Some people will never understand the power of this handheld like ROG ally. it help me again to play during my busy days. Only Fatherhood or busy at work issues will only understand this and Some people will never get what I mean from what I said since they have a lot of time with little responsibilities in life.

I do not have a gaming setup except for my ROG Ally, and I absolutely love it and use it daily. I know that the ROG Ally is not the best fit for everyone, but if you have kids and you want to game along it is great.

I also bought a new gaming laptop, but guess what I don't use it much for gaming. Why? I literally work 50 hrs a week in IT consulting and rest of the time I create content. The device isn't the issue, it's our life.

I feel the same with my Steam Deck buying it earlier this year..... it also doesn't help that I now have a new gaming laptop since I still prefer gaming on a bigger screen.

I am actually selling my rog ally as well. I wanted to see if I preferred it over the Steam deck and while it is more powerful for some reason after testing it for a couple of months I barely use it meanwhile when I started playing my steam deck again I use it all the time. Now I use my steam deck during my lunch at work, I play it at home when I don’t feel like turning on my PC, or if I’m not the driver and I’m going on a long drive. Or even like yesterday went with the family to shop, I got done early so I chilled in the car with the kids and played steam deck while they played the switch. I think the issue for me with the ally is not just the SD card cause you can just put a bigger sad, my issue is I work in IT and sometimes when I get home I don’t want to deal with Windows OS, this why often I don’t turn on my gaming pc and just turn on my ps5, and I think that’s why I reach for the steam deck more often than anything cause it’s very much console like, I even setup PS remote play on it so if the main TV is being used I can just remote play, or I can just play my steam games, or play Xbox cloud games.

If I didn't get the Ayn Loki Max already, I would get this for sure! I have that same dock that I use for my laptop and I like it a lot.

I do have an XG Mobile 2022 with the 3090 but I don't own a ROG ally, instead I have the ROG Flow X13 (which on it's own has RTX 2070ti). Honestly I love it, it's now my one device PC/Desktop combo and I was thinking of getting the ROG Ally and rid of the X13 to see if I could even use a smaller form factor when I'm travelling. The honest downside is the fact that there's no keyboard and I can't really do work on it on the go like I do with the X13. In terms of gaming, you pretty much can play any AAA games on Med settings with the on-board 2070ti, and with the 3090 XG Mobile you pretty much can play anything.

Recently grabbed a steam deck OLED and been having a bunch of fun remote playing my Xbox and my epic games library. Typically play a bit at work or laying down before going bed

The target audience for this device is kids who's parents refuse to take them back to Best Buy for a return/refund :)
