This is sad for me as a Nigerian. I lived in Jamaica before most of you here were born. At that time, only 'brown' skin girls worked in fancy stores and banks in New Kingston. At that time, Rastas were rejects in Jamaica. But Africa enthusiastically embraced Rastas, and helped push Reggae. Jamaica was considered an extension of Africa even before many Jamaicans finally embraced their African identity.

Along with some Jamaicans, Ghana and Cameroon are also making the same lament. But why? Nigeria eagerly embraced music from these places in the past.

Very, You all don't see us complaining now that we have white Afrobeat artists using our Afro beat sounds in the UK? Jamaica too can use Afro beats if anything, we need each other. Sometimes I wonder if they understand where all sounds come from. u mean to tell me that out of over 250 million population in Nigeria, we don't have varieties of sounds and beats? Let alone the rest of the 53 countries in the African continent?

I am a Trini living in Europe & the part of Europe where I live there isn't many Caribbean people so most of the spots play afrobeats. I love afro beat but the more I listen to it the more I'm hearing dancehall even the dance moves are beginning to take a dancehall turn. I was wondering if I was the only one who realized this. Dancehall artists are singing music that isn't relatable, fun or crossover. Too violent, too explicit & vulgar hence why Afrobeat is winning. The music is fun & feels positive even tho you have no idea what they're saying. I honestly feel sorry for Jamaican musicians who aren't catching on 😏
