I believe you got confused a bit, although in theory yes you do want a slope on those branches leading up to the wye T, when you add an off set like that 45 you are exceeding the fittings purpose. In other words if you had a branch glued directly to a wye you could only slope a certain amount in order to glue them together without causing a leak, therefore the wye fitting could be slightly sloped but not enough to break the plane. Picture a combo wye, if you would have used one it is still limited to how much you could rotate it. Maybe you meant to do it maybe you didn't but you created your own combo wye, that was really the problem. I hope this made sense. And for those saying that it would siphon the traps, it's really more about waste water running faster than the actual waste and the branch not being properly washed.

Dangit, i really hope you're still teaching somewhere. I've been soaking up you're videos for the past few hours and you have impressed me. I imagine you've got a pretty good rating on Rate My Professor. 😊 My youngest is currently a freshman in college. Her trig teacher started the first class bragging about his 30% pass rate and told the kids to not with of they get a bad grade in his class because after they graduate it won't even matter. If I didn't work at the very same university, I'd have paid him a visit already. This is where tenure fails us...

I can't think of any reason I will need to calculate anything like this. I watched the video simply for the joy of learning. I understood it right up until 9:19 when it comes to calculating the length of B,E,H. Where do you get the "Offset" number? The term offset is used throughout the video, but i don't think it's defined. Also, right in the last few seconds you introduce the term "Advance" without defining it. It appears these videos are too supplement what you taught during an in- class lecture, so perhaps your target audience is already supposed to know those terms. I've been enjoying your series of videos. I landed here because I'm redoing plumbing that a "handyman" did during a bathroom remodel. There's a veritable plethora of code violations from horizontal hard 90° turns, Sani-Tees lying on their back, and S-traps under the sink and tub. Good times.

14:41 you mention two 45° need to be separated by 12" of pipe in order to make a 90° horizontal bend. Does the distance requirement between the two 45° change depending on pipe diameter? Or is it 12" for any dia pipe.

I wondered the same thing. Can't imagine on a 2" pipe there needs to be 12 inches.

I appreciate that you've covered most all the different fittings. I was concerned about the sweeping wyes and the siphon effect. Something that might be helpful on your diagrams is to show the viewing direction of the fitting installed drawings on the stick diagrams.

Hi Edward... Please can you help me solve or know how to solve problems or real situations of take off in threaded joints. For this examples: 1) A piece of NPS ∅2" pipe is being cut to run between two 90° degree threaded fittings. The center-to-center measurement of the fittings is 7'-2¼". What is the cut length of the pipe? 2) A length of NPS ∅1½ inch pipe is to be cut run between two 90° degree 6.000# threaded fittings. The fittings measure 7 ft 2¼ inches center to center. What is the cut length of the pipe? What fittings tables do you use to obtain the dimensions required for the calculations. Regards... Thanks

Delibis, You need: - the face to Centre to Face measurement of the fitting (actually measure that yourself) you are using - the Thread engagement based of NPS (can be found on American Standard Pipe Thread Table) - Calculation the fitting allowance ( FA = F/C - TE) Malleable Iron Class 150 - 2" 90 Elbow face to centre is 2 1/4" 2" NPS Thread Engagement is 3/4" FA = F/C - TE = 2 1/4" - 3/4" = 1 1/2" Finding E/E (cut pipe) of 1 1/2" with C/C of 7' - 2 1/4" E/E = C/C - (FA + FA) = 7' - 2 1/4" - (1 1/2" + 1 1/2") = 86 1/4" - 3" = 83 1/4" = 6' - 11 1/4" Hope this helps.
