As a guy who is about to graduate high school, wants to make movies and probably shoot other stuff outside of that, I find this video inspiring and it’s well-crafted. Unlike most vids, your vid is realistic and glad you’re still pursuing your goals.

what you need your art spoon fed to you. you fundamentally misunderstand burroughs work and are judging him a psychopath without knowing much about the man. he was deeply mentally ill and a drug addict and all his opinions dont hold up to modern scrutiny but i Think you dont get it and so to you its stupid heroin induced ramblings. tell me your favorite author im sure i can tell you how he sucks too. I describe Burroughs as the Pablo Picasso of literature his writing are and prose are so unique that they are now only being understood to this day. For example, Pablo Picaso, he paint life like paints but he switched his style in order to make people feel something in there hearts and soul, so that’s why his paintings look like something a 8 year old would draw. But you have to understand that these people are so good that the only people who can understand art and surrealism, are him self and close artist friends.

Minor points. So he didn't fall into heroin on account of the Volmer shooting. He was deep in on/off most of his life. the idea of Naked Lunch is to describe society "as is" - so the satirical part is intertwined with absurdisms, because thats how he saw it. Naked Lunch meaning - the point of eating at which you realize, that the meat on your fork isn't a steak, its a cow that lived, breathed and thought. Its all about connecting the reality of it all, to the readers preconceptions and overcoming them.

I’m wondering if Rick Rubin, as a Buddhist and writer of this book and into meditation would really want people to smoke a joint before they read his work. Isn’t there some activities that don’t require getting stoned? I spent decades getting stoned before going to movies going to concerts, going to a restaurant etc. I felt like I needed it so that I was guaranteed to enjoy the experience. That’s a bunch of nonsense pot just makes things dollar makes us more stupid than we already are. I’ll read his book but I’m not going to smoke pot before I read it

Its a metaphor for realization. Ginsberg said "We all eat reality sandwiches" - in that - socially speaking we tend to take a lot of awful absurdity in stride or dismiss it - as its "packaged in a delicious looking meal" - the obvious analogue is farming and being divorced from the burger as once living - but ofc it applies far and wide. the entire book is an absurdist series of vignettes that aim at showing you what reality "really" is - as in, bestial, strange and not for the faint hearted.
