Did you play a certain song or was this all improvised? It sounds excellent, and your playing is impeccable!

Been waiting a bit for more from Mr. Calandrella. It was worth it: tender and appropriate. Sweet and fitting altissimo, too.

sounds great. i have a 7L EX that actually feels smaller than my Link 7s. you sound great on a 2S but i don't think that would work for me. i hold on to this piece thinking i will play it more..

I also have both bot the STM has a smaller tip opening 7 the NY a 7*. Both are very particular about reeds. (they need to be prepared) To me your altissimo is better on the STM and that is also my experience. The NY is better for tone shaping, but you need to watch your air. Even with the same reed the STM is more resistant nut the benefit is it is more even in all reguster. I really need to send it to be refaced. I feel the table is not as flat. I like the idea of medium chamber. One thing the NY does is you can start a subtone on Bb really low volume and has very minimal edge and not as breathy. With the STM, to do that I have to come down from a non bell note like D or Eb, otherwise it will have an edge or bark. But it is more even and won't punish you if your breath support is lacking, Great playing BTW @4:56 is when you switched to the STM for reference for future viewers so that the A-B is easier.

I have throat issues from an old injury, so my physical conditioning changes and different ones feel better at different times. I will say that the NY feels better to me more often. I really like the quick response I get on the STM though. I jst can't play it as often.

If you bought a new one what tip opening would you get? Btw you sound awsome!
@jimcsax4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Gary! I tend to like medium/large to large chambers. I used to be able to play a small chamber mouthpiece and make it sound good but I sound terrible on them now. If I had more money I would have every size from 6 to 8 as I like having options. Typically i'm 7 -7* guy., but on a large chamber I may go down to a 6. Nothing crazy for me.
@jimcsax4 жыл бұрын
So this is a 6, meaning my next Morgan purchase will probably be a 7.

Yeah, i've played links for 3 years now so i'm used to them. I do think if I spent more time on the Morgan, or one a little bigger that i'd get more out of it.

The Morgan may have played easier but I thought the Link had more texture, presence and core. Metal Links are so challenging to play but just sound so good.
@jimcsax4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it was definitely interesting to put them back to back, which I really didn't intend on doing. I thought at different points the Morgan sounded more centered but when a link is dialed in it's pretty awesome.
@BobDoherty4 жыл бұрын
@@jimcsax Yeah its that "dialing in" that's tough. I may go back to a HR V16 T6.
