Seed grown is not popular, but result in stronger trees. Also, amending the soil with rich organic matter proves to be good. And on a large scale this tip isn’t achievable, but morning sun and afternoon shade produces the best trees, or dappled sunlight. The sun here in the southeast can be harsh, along with the droughts we get yearly, wreak havoc on everything. So the sand doesn’t store enough water or nutrients, so that can diminish the trees ability to stay alive. And lastly those pest, weevil bugs, are a nuisance. And I think the bugs are the number one threat to crops.

Most big farmers have gotten rich with government subsidies and tax breaks and selling some valuable land for housing developments. They get a big paycheck for the good years when the crops thrive.

You kind of inspired me.. I think I'm going down that road myself.. I love your story.. I'm back in that direction someday visiting my uncle and my aunt that lives there.. perhaps I'll stop by visit.. you know I'm with you on this I don't think I would rather do something else... I'm kind of with you on this

My heart goes out to all the farmers who are being affected by the drought. I am praying for rain.

Could you do a seasonal feral swine hunt? If I'm not mistaken, a swine is a pig. If it's feral does that make it inedible? If you can eat it, would the more impoverished in your state appreciate donated meat from a seasonal hunt? And could an application for some of the federal infrastructure bill money be made to improve the cellular infrastructure in your state? Does NC need better and stronger advocates for this? Because no state in the most affluent country in the world should have an education system in which students do not have access to the internet. That's not just unfair to the people of NC, it's just wrong. I'm in NJ so have no personal interest in these issues. I just have compassion for the people in my country.

This brings back memories!!! I went to a boarding school in north Ga. We had a farm and one thing we grew was sorghum. Every fall we’d cut it and cook it down like this. A lot of work but when you poured it on a fat ol’ biscuit and bit down - WORTH IT!!! Good times…

Seems like the Farm Bureau is working to hide anything that would monitor water pollution from pig poop "lagoons". Too bad that the advocates for farmers have to be so anti-environment and clean water.
