The last factory in SC has been torn down ending the history of a fine tool company. Many people do not realize Bonney Loc-Rite was the original off gripping edge style of sockets and wrenches and Snap-On stole it and called it flank drive and ended up loosing in court when Utica Bonney sued them and won. Utica pliers had a section in the catalog of nothing but phone company special pliers and tools some odd stuff. Triangle Tool group was when those red boxes were made but later all became part of Cooper group which is when it all went wrong as Crescent tool company won the corporate lead and they discontinued Bonney which is criminal. The little mini pliers with green or tan grips are electronics pliers or cutters. What a great industrial tools brand gone forever and it is sad.

What dates did you find in the box? Top is stamped on the upper left top floor and the bottom would be stamped on the right side front frame by the front caster. This is a Waterloo made Craftsman. I have several like it, and they are my favorite iteration of these. I found the exact same top box from 1968, and it was tossed out for trash in 2003. It's been cleaned up and in my garage ever since. Snap On will send you a new kit for that ratchet, but it probably just needs to be cleaned and lubed.
@thetoolbandit4 күн бұрын
Honestly, I put the box in a different garage than mine, went back and shot the video but didn't take time to look. I will update you when I can. Thanks for the info on the bottom stamp, most boxes around here like to rust in that location but I will take a look. I also like this style of box, but prefer the bottom with 9 drawers. If the slides are clean/greased they work as good as any ball bearing drawer. Thanks for watching!
@googleusergp4 күн бұрын
@@thetoolbandit I have a nine drawer lower, but the next generation after it (1981 vintage). I got it free off Craigslist. It was being scrapped. I grabbed it and I have been using it ever since. The earlier version of the lower box in your video (which I have two of like that) actually have in some configurations kitchen cabinet drawer style rollers in lieu of slides and they slide better than any ball bearing set up there. Sometime in the 1960s, they changed it to the friction slides, probably due to cost. Still good, but the oldies are better. Waterloo supplied Craftsman tool storage since at least 1960 as I have a 1960 Craftsman top and bottom combination I bought in 2002. I got it an estate sale for $50, it was rough. I cleaned it up, painted it, and sent in photos to Sears. They paid me $50 and put me in the Craftsman Club newsletter at the time. At that time, I developed contacts at Waterloo, some of who I still chat with now and then.
@thetoolbandit2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the info. About 10 years ago I posted a box on the facebook Craftsman page, and they send me a gift card for $300 because it had thousands of likes and shares. It was my kids baby photos, he was inside a small 3 drawer portable box. He only weighed 6 pounds at the time.

The "V" indicated that Moore Drop Forge made it in Springfield, MA. The "VV" means that MDF/Easco made them in Springdale, AR. The "BF" is believed to have been Daido and for a time were sourced at the same time as the USA sourced units and there was consumer backlash so the Japan units went away. No "VV" Is older than "V^" as the later was the Danaher era who bought Easco in the 1990s. Not always correct, as not all "unmarked" Craftsman tools were made in China. The wrench you showed, yes, made in China, but other tools not marked made in USA may have still been made here, but they are vintage indeed. Do not believe all of those source charts, as many of them are faulty and lack the proper research. I had spoken to many contacts at the actual Sears suppliers years back and many confirmed or denied what was published about their tools that they made for Sears.
@thetoolbandit4 күн бұрын
I think I covered most of what you said but I wasn't trying to give a detailed history. I was mainly trying to help people build sets that matched, and what small differences to look for since all 11 wrenches I show look about the same. It seems few "experts" can completely agree on years and locations made. Hard to be sure who actually knows what they are talking about. Most people seem to trust Alloy-Artifacts, who I used. Thanks for watching!
@googleusergp4 күн бұрын
@@thetoolbandit Yes, AA has some good references. I'm talking about other places. I know the "V" and "VV" are correct as it came from an MDF/Easco/Danaher line operator who was also involved with the move from sockets at Springdale to Gastonia, NC in 1978.

@@thetoolbandit I can tell you've referenced Gary Lauver's list which is floating around on the internet. I know Gary from the old Craftsman tool board circa 2000. He's very knowledgeable, however, he got some bad information from some folks who really didn't do their homework. For instance, the Western Forge date information he's got is incorrect. I know this because I spoke to a veteran WF employee right before they closed and he e-mailed me the date code scheme and how it worked. I still have the e-mail.

Whitworth. I'm sure that's what you meant. Yes the pitch was different, and the fastener heads were really weird, they seemed to have gone by the diameter of the bolt, not the head size, so a 1/4 inch bolt would be a 3/8" head, bit they'd call it a 1/4" Whitworth. Then there was British Standard size, which was similar but not the same. I worked on a 1934 Rolls, getting it roadworthy, had to buy a set of snap on wrenches and sockets for it. It's been awhile so I don't remember it all. 1980s. But the SAE/fractional stuff still wouldn't be the exact same size as Whitworth. The sizes were not identical to SAE. Terribly confusing system.

My Grandfather had the bent Diamond pliers they are made that way. The red handled pump pliers are Crescent in my opinion. The tool box hauls are always fun mysteries. I bought a cantilever tool box a couple weeks ago mostly because it looked like a Craftsman in good shape and I saw 2 NOS Vise Grips still in the box. I think with fees I paid $60. I have yet to fully unpack it but the vise grips are from 1999 based on the Christmas rebate needing to be in by January 31st, 2000. Below the vise grips were 2 NOS 9 1/2” Channellock pump pliers still in the plastic on the sale card. The icing on the cake was the tool box is actually a vintage Kennedy with just slight rust. Thanks for the videos
