I am looking to find out for each movie where are the "cuts" due to 30' duration of each side of discs. Does anyone know a web page giving that information, please? Million thanks.

I bought a LaserDisc player and this Definitive Collection just so that I could watch Han kill Greedo (with no shot fired by Greedo) and to not see that awful CGI Jabba the Hutt scene in Star Wars. I'll have to check if I have the early or later pressing thanks and yes no dust cover for my book

Loved CAV format! I remember Dracula third side CAV on my Pioneer LD player, still frame by frame the scene where Winona Ryder cuts off D's head! You could see it was a dummy! Perfect still frame. Ahh, so cool what we had back in the day.

My first LD exploration began in 1996. A Panasonic player. It was glorious! I thought I’d gone to heaven as a life long movie freak. Since then I’ve had on and off again dealings. HDTV was not nice to LD. Audio: still holds up. But I couldn’t get past the video signal. But man do I look back with such warm feelings on this format. So cool to connect with this video!

The first time I saw the SMB movie, 8 year old me was just perplexed and frankly creeped out by how the Koopa Troopas looked in it, and it put me off watching it again until much later in life.

I still don't get it. Collect sure if that's your thing. But why watch something in lower quality when there are better options? I also don't agree with the Atari comparison either. Many people grew up with only the home versions of arcade games and would want to play those today based on their play history and nostalgia. And for the most part, people felt the arcade translations sucked then. Most of the best games were original titles not the arcade translations. Comparing wanting to play a game like Pitfall! doesn't really translate to wanting to watch a movie in lower quality because that's how you watched it in 1991. This is coming from someone who had a laserdisc collection as well as an Atari fan.

Picture overview...It's a composite format so it'll be a bugger to look good on a modern HDTV and the image will be very soft, also not all titles are in widescreen either! Disc overview...They're as big as a record and you'll have several of them to flip over if it's a long (over 2hrs) runtime, expect to be changing sides about four times. 😆😆😆😆

Has anyone had a chance to compare the new Dolby Atmos mix of Jurassic Park against the LD DTS track? Let me explain why I am asking. Jurassic Park was NOT originally mixed in Dolby Atmos and I have noticed that older mixes that are upscale or remixed to Atmos typically don't hit nearly as hard as they originally did in their original 5.1 channel theatrical mixes that made their way to LD. This includes AC-3 mixes since the bit rate for 35MM AC-3 and LD AC-3 are close in bit rate due to their bandwidth limitations.

A good decoder for AC3RF and DTS is the Denon AVD-2000. It can often be found on eBay for almost the same price as a standard Yamaha AC3RF demodulator

I'm just starting collecting laser discs. I'm not sure if this is a stupid question but..Is it possible to polish and resurface a laser disc that skips and fix it? I tried the novus 3,2,1 and it helped slightly I think but did not fix it. Help please? Thanks

Its stupid how the AC3 demodulator was never integrated into any player. even on the Combo DVD LD players there were three digital outputs. One for AC3 RF, one for DVD PCM and AC3 (maybe also for LD PCM), and a single PCM output (could have been just for CDs but might have also been the LD digital output).

Have you ever tried to resurface a laser disc movie that will not play? I have a copy of Videodrome on laser disk that skips. I ordered the Novus 3,2,1 cratch remover. I've tried it several times, and it still skips. Any suggestions, please?

I built a screent size of roughly 65" tall by 14-6 wide which was 2.35;1 by my calcs back in about 2007 and at the time I found a Vertical Compression Lens for the special deal price of $700. It's prisms were of acrylic. A few years ago I lucked out and found the exact lens but with GLASS prism and what a difference! Panamorph U85 is the model. So about three projectors later an Optoma UHZ65 does the honors and most 16 by 9 content fills the entirety. There's an aspect button on the remote I use when wiewinh anything letterbox to get rid of the top bottom black bars. I still have my pioneer CLD 501 or something laserdisc that plays both sides without flipping. Back in the day I used Sony crt projector and a dvdo line doubler for a short time. Wasn't great but was a start. Would be nice to enjoy laserdisc with the UHZ65 but I think you see the lines . Maybe you could suggest the best RGBHV to HDMI converter so I could add the ole laserdiscs into the mix?

Man, I'm no stranger to Laserdisc but I've never really owned one nor bought any Laserdisc film AT ALL. Now I don't own this set at all honestly. The only set I do own is the 2006 DVD releases of the Original Trilogy (a.k.a The Special Editions) which were the Limited Editions with the bonus discs containing the "Theatrical" versions. I wonder if the Theatrical versions were sourced from this set?

At My local thrift Store I recent bought A few RCA Selectravison Laserdiscs Of a few Movies I Saw in theaters Ages ago and such type selections and fave type movies such as Deathwish 1, Blue Thunder , and Neighbors 1981 etc for 2 bucks only each , and No I do not have any Laserdisc players but I found these Discs interesting Art and Nostalgia none the less to have. So since I have seen videos about this RCA series Of discs and the Seeming Consensus is they are Only Subpar and Problematic as Compared to Any other companies original produced Laserdics. And typically some I Googled are tads Pricey pricey too. Is that Overall in your opinion True too?

Had laserdiscs for a long time. The TV's and projectors had a zoom mode to get the right aspect ratio and not squeezed vertically. That was not needed once I moved onto anamorphic DVD's. I still remember some DVD's still needed the zoom mode such as 2001 and The Abyss (which I still have).

I wonder if we’ll be talking about laserdisc in another 20-50 years. We’re at 8k resolution and this format still gives a select group of people, “something.” Maybe in 20’years I’ll actually have an X0. Like the doc says in Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman, “I have to see it at full power.”
