Btw, maybe a fun little gag. Try to create a song, and try it as serious as you can, with 2 handpan that DO NOT match at all. And try to approach this as a challenge.

OK I don't have 2k to spend on a handpan but would love to play at home or for guests (and learn) at 432H, think of yoga session type drumming. What handpan can I use that's in the $300 range.

I looked into the cost of high quality steel used to make a hand pan, this is steel made in Australia with high labour and material costs and the cost is $90 Australian dollars that's about $45 pounds, the labour in a place that makes handpans is $40 Australian a month, the process would be close to the wage in a 3rd world country, so only if they made one a month and I dout that, the cost is $170 AUD and that's like $87 pounds, they just have to sell one at double the cost and make a months wage

What I need to know is what is the best positioning for placing in front of you? It looks like you have the lower notes towards you which is how I've been practicing mine. But of course, I'll always have to have it in the same position for the sake of technique and playing the right notes.

The manufacturing process is compleeetely different. It's really difficult to make a nice sounding handpan without many many hours of labour and costly materials/equipment. I also play a guitar that was around £150 and I love it. Guitars are also tunable by the user (to an extent, if the setup is bad your higher frets are gonna be out obviously), while an out of tune handpan is just that... Out of tune. And almost impossible to fix by a handpan builder without throwing the whole thing out even more

Totally possible yeah. Perhaps damage in delivery or a mistake. Expensive handpans are all handmade though, and if this happens, the maker will be quick to take the instrument back and retune for free. Most builders I know offer free or cheap retuning of their instruments since they want their instruments to be represented well. One maker I bought from actually completely replaced my instrument for free just because they'd gotten better at building since I'd bought the original instrument 🤣 It's also much easier to retune a stable handpan. Cheaper, factory made instruments are typically quite unstable, and it's very easy to break the instrument while tuning. So most builders won't retune a cheap pan for you, OR they'll give you a biiig disclaimer that it might ruin the instrument completely. In my 10 years of playing. I've had retunes maybe 3 times. And only because it felt overdue, not because of noticeable detuning (and I play and teach daily + travel etc)
