Pokemon X and Y to me is how a lot of millenials feel about the Sonic Adventure games. Down to people thinking that the jump to 3D were where the games started becoming bad due people not liking the newer games, even though they were well liked at the time. They're no masterpieces and are missing a lot of content but I still enjoy them because of the vibes. The hype around mega evolution in the anime and VGC was something special. ORAS is peak though, one of the best remakes of all time. Similar to how Diamond and Pearl are just okay but HeartGold and SoulSilver were incredible.

Fun fact, the Wii U is actually one of the better consoles for the Skylanders series, having the best version of SSA (the Wii version is worse graphically but much more polished), access to all six games, and having the exclusive Bowser and Donkey Kong characters.
