Hey Chris, could you explain to me on a 2011 r1200 pinging on acceleration make a video if you can. I'm being told they all run like that. 2011 dual overhead cam pinging on hard acceleration I've tried the gas even an additive. Nothing has helped. How do you do the timing on these motors? Can a newbie do it? I doubt it. Help me. Chris I hope you're feeling all right

Know Scott’s parents well. Worked with his mother for many years. I never had the opportunity to meet Scott but his mom and dad would tell me about his love for motorcycles and racing in particular. Your tribute was heartfelt and appreciated, Chris. Thank you.

Hi Chris - it's probably unlikely that you will read a comment on a video this old, but I thought I'd ask anyway - on my R1150R it sounds like cam chain rattle at idle, but only when the engine is hot (never when cold). Is this still likely to be a tensioner issue or is there something else at play here? Cheers, Andy.

My 2006 r1200 GS with only 29,000 miles on it starts and runs silently when cold. And when it’s warmed to normal operating temperature the engine still idles and runs silently, but when I stop it when at normal operating temperature and let it sit for a few minutes and then restart the engine,it has the dreaded loose cam chain rattle for around 3 or so seconds. It 2:30 doesn’t do this at all when the engine is started from cold.I am using fully synthetic Mobile 1 racing 15 / 50 oil. Any advice would be really really appreciated. Thank you.

This is great to know. I have an 1150 GS and I'm just replacing the tappets with the newer ones. So I can do a "while I'm in there" with the tensioner. It's definitely the old one, because it came apart. I'm definitely going to leave the chain guides alone, unless they show signs of excessive wear/damage.

Can you just use a 30mm crow's foot on the paralever locknut? I encounter the same situation on helicopter tail rotor hub, and yes, we do have the same type of special tool, but often just use the crow's foot anyway (easier/less work than signing out special tool). I'm sure the crow's foot is about the same or less than a high dollar impact socket with all the milling work to open it up 🤷 I may still mill one out just because it's more elegant.

Thanks Chris, i think its pretty cool that you take the time to do these selfless vidios to help people out. And you make them enjoyable to watch. Initially, I wanted just to see how to change the cam chain tensioner. But your video was so relaxed and easy to watch that I ended up watching other videos I didn't even have to do just to learn. Thank you again please keep it up.

Hi Chris, Greetings from California. Well it’s time to replace the Battery on my R1150R. After a few years my memory fades. So Today I rewatched your excellent video describing the procedure and as always I found it instructive and just a funny F-bombs and all. (So many little fasteners to remove…for a battery!) So now you are getting me back on the road-again. I hope all is well with you and your family. All my best.

Excellent Chris 👍🏻 just found your videos. I’ve just started a restoration on a 1984 K100RT. Been sitting idle 5 yrs prior to my purchasing her. Engine purrs like a kitten but everything else rough. I’ll be using your videos to help me. Really appreciate finding you. I’ve subscribed to your channel 🙏☮️❤️ kindest regards, Allan From New Zealand 🇳🇿

iIs ridiculous how easy that came out for you, i'm seriously pissed off after 3 hours of trying to get the threaded cylinder out, the spring is too high and wont allow removal. also the large O ring on the TB is too large .....probably with age.

Can you tell me if the engine oil needs draining before removing. I've heard from others that the drive spigot sits in engine oil when it's attached to the bike. My BMW manual doesn't mention it for the R1200RT but I want to be sure! Thanks

Usually they have a dry clutch for those models, so no oil present.
@ArcanePath360

@@t.s.3669 Actually the 2014 model onwards is a wet clutch. But the oil level is below the hole it turns out, so it didn't leak.

@@ArcanePath360 Interesting! Had no idea. Mine is a 2004 like the one in the video, just replaced the battery 2 weeks ago, and now I see the starter acting up a bit, and should of taken the starter and cleaned it, noticed on forums is common to get the clutch dust kind of making in it misbahave, nothing a bit of WD40 wouldn't solve. Reading on forums, some of those bikes running over 120k on original starter, mine is only 44k, so I will have to try that first. I would think that the newer models, than, are not prone to the clutch disk dust issue, as mine is.

You're making me happy with my purchase of the same motorhome but a few year's older 😮. I paid $6500 Total and at 35000 miles all those little quirky thinks have been addressed lol. Although I sure someone got burned on the purchase of mine at some point? It was not me. And I'm now moving the front TV to the ceiling and on a flip up mount. Also 3d printed new mounts for switching all controls radio, climate, backup monitor to my preferred locations. I've also printed different little pieces to eliminate some of the road noise and rattling. Soon to be available for purchase. You've brought up all the reasons to not by new motorhomes.

Hey Chris. Not a mechanic here. But I have to wonder, based on your discussion about the 7Nm versus 10-12 Nm. if 7Nm seems appropriate (when you do not have the cutout on the socket) to tight it up? Said differently, without that tool, chances are that the internal pin will go above 7Nm when you torque the nut and so would likely end up at more than 7Nm (and hopefully not more) and perhaps below 12Nm. Just a thought. Geez, I just realize this video is 11 years old. Chances you would never read this (hopefully other savvy users do and provide rationale for-against this?
