My favourite driving road on the island, if not the UK! Such a shame it risks disappearing. I live on the mainland, but holiday on the island as often as we can (this year will be 5 on the trot).......there's was proactive action to underpin the road a good few years ago, it's a shame there's such red tape in the way now. I sincerely hope this years isn't the last we can enjoy it in its current state. Keep up the great work on the videos, it gives me an IoW "fix" until our next visit :)

How do you pronounce the word "Chine"? It's not a word we use in Canada. Is it like ch-eye-n or chain?

I don't believe I've been down these steps - the one I've done was in Ventnor. Looks like those steps (slabs) are the very seems ones that are shown in the postcards from the early 1900s. I must put this on my 'to do' list. Absolutely splendid drone footage of Bonchurch.

It won’t be long before this whole stretch of coastline will not be accessible from the road due to erosion. That will be a shame as it is the only part of the island that is still natural and beautiful. Always my favourite place to go when the buses are running.

Lovely clear video footage. 👍👍👍 Unless this winter weather has put pay to the route down to the beach, you get there from the Old Blackgang Road car park. It's the 3rd turning on the left after the Buddle Inn. You do need to be able bodied. It takes about 10 mins to walk down. Beautiful secluded beach.

Very nice presentation of those bits of Bonchurch. End of loverly drone footage gives a good perspective of how the new land slip has changed that adjacent area. Great work.

They look lovely. But I wonder if larger people can comfortably walk down them. It looks like they have been they're a long time. A few look quite dangerous as they're broken

As mentioned in the previous comments the maze is precariously near a deep overhang and looks really unsafe!

Used to be my favourite beach to visit - when there were steps to get you there... so sad it's inaccessable now.
@garethbramley1Ай бұрын
Marvellous! This just shows the sheer depth of this chine which seems to have got bigger over the years. No sign of the broken steps now so the council must have removed them for safety reasons. You can see the path closed sign and the start of the path on the left at 0:15 / 1:01.
@philsheathАй бұрын
At 1:09 you can see the path and the old rope handrail to the bottom. I went down 3 years ago..nearly died lol
@garethbramley1Ай бұрын
I went down with a friend about the same time - maybe 2022 - but it was a right scramble and I was VERY UNBALANCED due to my rucksack and camera!!! I seem to recall someone had provided a rope but it wasn't much use. It's a fair walk to get back up from anywhere else too (Rocken End going east or Shepherd's Chine going west). With the current state of affairs down there any replacement steps would be futile as they would collapse in a few weeks.

OMG! The path in Area 5 is close now and the maze I don't think will be open all season if we carry on with the amount of rain! That is really bad that side of the park
@garethbramley12 ай бұрын
Marvelous stuff. Thanks for uploading this. Starting off with a birds-eye view of Rumpus Mansion - previously known as Rockside Cottage and Five Rocks. You can easily see the old Blackgang Tap (later The Ship Ashore); and the original building of the Blackgang Hotel @ 1:02 - now flanked by canopies on each side. I wouldn't recommend going in that maze! Easy to see that quite a bit more 'blue slipper' clay has overspilt on the beach. You can also see little streams forming because of all the rain. 1:47 - there's definitely an overhang here south of the maze. The sheer weight of it could force it down at any time.🙁

Thank you, I enjoyed your flyover. I arrive there several weeks before the event in ‘70. Joined a small crew building the site, and stayed on until we had restored it back to it’s natural state. Fond memories.
