Polystyrene has to be the worst possible material to use to press records. Although the playing surface is ultra quiet for the first few playings it very quickly degrades to a hissy record and very poor sound. You do wonder who could have thought it was a good idea. Thankfully it was rarely used here as far as i am aware... unlike in the states.

It is surprising just how good 16rpm reproduction is. I have a number of seeburg background music disks and they sound great.....although muzac can get a bit monotonous after a while 😂

I had one of these as a kid and my only gripe was that LP speeds were mostly 33 1/3 and this was 33 without any way to adjust it. It wasn't particularly loud and the fidelity was poor - but that linear turntable was cool af being able to play both sides - even on repeat. I wish I kept it but I think the turntable broke and it wasn't worth having it repaired.

@@Vintage-Tech i know that i call them seeburgs cause of the size and how meaningful they are to me it is what many called similar records in the early 80's like 1980 itself.

Loved using these, largely because reels are BIG. Loved using Granny's. There are different qualities of course and I think the best ones had the largest reels which were a sort of frosted plastic, as I recall. Happy 2b corrected.

Brilliant! My mother bought myself and my brother one of these for a Christmas, and 3 x 'Singles' of the day - No Milk Today (Herman's), Matthew and Son (Cat), In The Country (Cliff) - and just before you did it, I remembered that you flick the red slider all the way over to the right - a 'I knew he was going to do that' moment. That was a lovely wander down memory lane, thank you indeed. Btw, Cliff Richard is now 108 years old - he's remarkable! Loved the '45'. The Move: "Tonight" is a song recorded by The Move and was written by Roy Wood originally for pop vocal group The New Seekers. Released in 1971, The Move's version was their first single release on the Harvest label, and charted at number 11 on the UK Singles Chart. In Denmark, it charted at number seven. The song peaked at number 89 in Australia. Jeff Lynne, who had joined the group the previous year, took lead vocal on the third verse.[citation needed] The single was issued in the US on Capitol. The United Artists reissue 45 was issued as the single for their 1972 Split Ends compilation. Record World said that "this cut from the Split Ends album should move up the charts with speed." (Wiki)
