Caveat: I watch a lot of videos about EV, but don't own one (yet) so my $0.02 This is a good example of form over function. Sure, the charging stalls look good , but there is no info on how to use them for the non-Tesla owner. Watching videos on other chargers, some of them will have detailed instructions on how to EXACTLY remove the charger and use it. Watching you remove the magic dock on the next charger might not be well known, or people might skip a step. Either try and remove the dock after holding down the button but NOT pushing forward to engage the latch, or just trying to take out the charge cable and just getting the Tesla end. Frustration would build up quickly. Since none of the other stalls are damaged, I'd guess this is what happened and someone got P.O.ed. Is there an option on the built in car app or phone app to report broken chargers?
@richard1113

Being a Tesla owner for only a month I'm still a noob and didn't even know what your video title meant. But you showed how to release the dock, and to me, it seems like a frustrated user lost their temper. They probably weren't patient enough or didn't even know that they had to hold the button for that long. I think it if was pure vandalism there would be more of them broken at that location.

Rivian doesn't have access to ALL Tesla Superchargers. Conversely, Teslas can charge at all CCS stations (except for Rivian Adventure Network "RAN"). I'd say there are significantly more V2 Tesla Superchargers (non-Rivian compatible) than there are RAN chargers. Additionally, though very good, the RAN chargers do load share so they're quite slow if you show up at a full station.
@DiegoMejia86
@DiegoMejia86 7 күн бұрын
I absolutely agree that V2 stations are more common than RAN chargers. but the title of the video is ... Better DC fast charging than Tesla. RAN stations charge faster than V2 stations, shared or not. Its a question of quality vs quantity which is much harder to argue, its all about opinion.

Tesla V2 chargers split 150kW between each pair, while RAN chargers share 300kW. They will charge at different speeds, but since the Rivian's large battery is double the size of the Model Y Long Range battery, the advantage of faster charging is likely offset by the larger battery capacity.

@rickmcdonald7075
@rickmcdonald7075 14 күн бұрын
Electric cars are cheaper per mile when you charge at home. National average is $ .17/kWh. California is $.27/kwh. Of course California gas prices are about $4.50 a gallon. That said the older R1T is 2.17 miles / kWh and for gasoline trucks 20 mpg is pretty average. National average gas price $3.50/ gallon. That’s $3.50 for 20 miles and $4ish for 20 miles at that $.41/kwh price. There are much more expensive DCFC . On long road trips fuel prices alone may occasionally be worse in EV trucks, but day to day and on shorter road trips it’s cheaper in the ev. We could go for days comparing all the costs, but I think it’s about a wash though maybe a little more for the ev depending upon your habits and insurance company. My F-150 Powerboost has many advantages, but if all I cared about was fuel costs I would not do gas or ev; I’d switch back to diesel.

Excellent discussion. But I wish Adam would expand on "everything Rivian stands for is null and void until the open the RAN network". How does the closed network make Rivian unworthy? First, there are very few RAN locations relative to Tesla's SCs. They simply won't make a dent in the road-trip charging experience for non-Rivians. Second, the company is trying to survive. I want them to concentrate on profitability, not assisting charging Chevy Bolts. You two were suckered by Fisker. Rivian is not a company deserving of derisive comments.

So glad that both of you are enjoying your new vehicles. I had ordered, back in November of 2023, a Fisker Ocean Sport - similar to Adam's. As I saw Fisker was having financial issues, I cancelled my order. Fisker did refund my reservation cost of $250 but I was not able to get the $750 back for my order. After trying out different EV's for my older, larger, and taller frame, the Chevy Blazer EV RS was a great fit for me at a price of $46K after rebate. I've been so happy with this vehicle, which is a sister to your Honda Prologue as I understand. It's faster than most ICE vehicles up to about 50 mph, it's spacious front and back and love the software and safety features (although the collision system auto braking is a bit sensitive). As my first EV, I feel fortunate to have quickly worked through the range anxiety, software anxiety, and charging anxiety issues to simply enjoying the smooth, quiet, comfortable and reliable performance of this car. Thank you to Brian and Adam for your informative updates and guidance as we negotiate this new world of the EV experience.

I look at every vehicle I buy as a 3 to 4 year relationship. As long as the vehicle drives with no major issues Im satisfied. Whatever value it has or doesn't have after that 4 years is irrelevant to me since I've traded in Luxury SUVs for less. Its on to the next 4 year relationship. I cant buy into the forever doom and gloom around owning an Ocean, because like most modern cars, its not a forever vehicle. If 4G goes, there's Hotspot. If Tom Tom goes...who will miss it? The only worry is the 12Volt battery issues or windows getting stuck and needing calibration and avoiding accidents. But the FOO community has been swift with fixes, since it appears to be blessed with tech and engineering savvy motivated people, that so far Im learning a lot from. As frustrated as people may be with how everything played out, the theme is resilience and community support for those that chose to keep their cars and for those that don't have the choice to currently get out of them. Not all owners want to be "felt sorry for". In the end everyone does what's right for us, be it by will or under duress.

I think Fisker rebranded alot of trims based on the orders that needed to be fulfilled at the time. Alot of the Ocean Ones do not have the Limited Edition xxxx/5000 screen. Meaning Fisker likely just took a destined Extreme and slapped a One badge on it. Likewise they likely took a sport, activated the subscription features and labeled it Ultra for sales.

Thanks for watching & commenting. Yes, KBB or NADA are both sites that provide values based on VIN. I fully understand, and everyone absolutely understands, the loss the early adopters suffered upon selling their Oceans. And those that remain owners have an Ocean than either can't be sold or sold at, perhaps, more of a loss than either of you took. However, we see the Ocean One and Extremes today, 6/29/24, at some as low as less than $25k. So, I am actually still considering a purchase, especially as 2.1 seems to offer a better product and if 3.0 gets delivered that might make the Ocean a very reasonable purchase vs. risk. In reality a purchase of $25k is a much lower risk than early adopters took and even if the Ocean bricks, which I do not think will be the norm, parts will have value. I suspect insurance will be hard to come by or expensive, however it is available now. If some purchase, or if I do, if insurance rates go up exponentially, 1 year from now it might be ok to just carry liability and drop collision for those with no loans. I've test driven 4 Oceans, cumulative, 30 mins, so not enough time to see issues so I experienced none. I do think the design is very attractive.
