@MathIndy5 күн бұрын
Very low cost. For the latest prices search Alibaba for YH-2.0T. Expect a few hundred more for shipping and also you need to buy a die(s) for the pin(s) you want to crimp. The dies were not very expensive.

General recommendation to anyone about how to solve this leaky relays issue which affected ALLL K617 by now. With 30 yeas epoxy filling around reed switch become conductive. Just desolder the relay and replace reed switches with MEDER KSK-1A66/3. Cost is 4 $ per 10 pieces and works ideally. You can pull out reed switch out the relay and you need to save and reuse original PTFE insulation tube of the reed switch.

PCBWay is now offering 3D printing to tool steel and aluminum! I've tried their tool steel and have an aluminum test print on the way. The tool steel part was Rockwell 28C hard and pretty nice looking. The dimensions of the internal holes were not very good (about -0.007" too small) but definitely good enough to be interesting for some applications.

The closest stripping tool that I've come across is the Jokari 20050 Super 4 Plus Wire Stripper. It has automatic adjustment to wire gauge 24-10AWG (0.2-6.0mm2) which works pretty well. Also has an adjustable end stop from 6-15mm. Because they are automatic you can't adjust the strip depth, so they can nick the strands and I sometimes see a few strands come loose on finer stranded wires. I've never had it jam up like many of the others with more complex stripping mechanisms.

Hey Tom, I'm needing to use an 8-32 tap as well. What size tapping chuck/holder are you using for the 8-32 tap, and where can I get one?
@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
Measure the shank on your tap. There are several standards for shank diameter (ANSI, DIN, JIS, ISO, etc.). For my 8-32 tap I'm using the ANSI U-4.3*3.4 collet which came in an ANSI set I got from eBay. It is labeled 5/32" but I think it's really 4.3mm. There are also sellers on AliExpress who will sell individual GT12 collets but I think the ANSI ones have to be bought in a set.

I'm not familiar with those models. My advice would be to look to see if it has a pulse signal to an LED or light bulb and try to implement this solution from there. If there is no piezo buzzer then you could simply buy a 5V piezo buzzer and put it inside the case somewhere. Good luck.

Hi! Does it sound loud with the transistor? I have done the capacitor modification and i can bearly hear it. Thanks!
@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
It's usable but yes, your are right, it's not very loud. The piezo element is inside the case so it gets muffled. If you could extend the short pulses with an RC network or 555 timer then I think it could be much louder.

Make sure you adjust the laser's focal length. Press the focus button on top of the laser head and adjust up & down until the two red dots are as close together as possible. Alternately, you can focus by setting EZCAD to continuously engrave (on a test piece) then adjust the focus up & down until you get good engraving. When the laser is properly focused, the engraving action will sound like bacon frying.

What is their metal printing resolution, would their process be high resolution enough to print the parts for a average automatic wrist watch for instance ?
@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
I have also run parts on PCBWays tool steel process. Metal 3D printing is pretty good but it's not going to be as good as parts run on traditional subtractive process. I need to make a video about the PCBWay tool steel process but, in a nut-shell, I found it has good tolerance on external dimension (+/-0.005") but poor tolerance on internal dimensions and through holes. All internal dimensions were about 0.010" too small but this might also be because of surface imperfections than cannot be sanded because they are internal. For large components these tolerances are pretty good but, for watch component I would say no. Regardless, you should run some test parts and see.

Years and years ago, we had in a lab exercise a task to determine a volt meter internal resistance. The method was as follows: Apply a stable voltage source, record the reading of the meter. Then add a precision resistance in series, record the new reading. From the two readings and known external resistance value, you can calculate the meter internal resistance (and the loop current). In this case, I would try with some 10M, 100M and/or 1G resistors and just a 1V reference supply. Then some simple calculation. Still remember the Ohm’s Law?

I know it’s 2 years past but if you still had this machine. Could you show a video on mild steel?
@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
It works on mild steel. The main drawback of this Grizzley is the spiral wound sand paper wears down quickly and can easily break especially if you come in with the height set for a too aggressive cut. The professional machines (like Timesaver brand) get around this problem by using a very large sanding belt instead of hook-and-loop belt.

What code do you use to program that operation?
@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
Page 27 of the instructions for the TL-BRAKE shows example code. Some Haas lathes have G156 code (broaching). To use the TL-BRAKE you have to wrap each call to G156 inside a local sub-program else your commands to turn the brake on and off will not get executed. If you don't have G156 a simple sequence of "G01" stroke commands can replace the G156 in the sub-program. More information here on page 27: www.mathews-engineering.com/uploads/8/2/2/6/82266386/tl-brake_install_instructionsrevf.pdf

Thanks for this video! You can actually find the Input Port of your Pedal by going to View>IO STATE in EzCad. From this menu option, a window pops up showing the IO Status. Press and hold down your pedal, and then check for any IO lights that change on the input side. I found that my pedal was Inport #5 by using this method, and I did not need to cycle through all the ports to find this out. I also set my "Red light pointer IO" outport to either 0 or 1, and that fixed the Light (F1) button's capability for my IPG fiber laser.

Thanks for sharing! Do you have to purchase a full die-set for each connector type or did you just buy them to swap them quickly? I am wondering if you could just swap the actual die element that crimps the parts?
@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
Yes, I bought several dies sets so I could swap them out as needed. Swapping the dies requires a little fuss but is reasonable. However, if I had a large production operation and needed various dies I would just buy a press for each die and that way they could all be set up and ready to go.

Hi, would you please tell me what's the real value for the R32 resistor? Thanks in advance.
@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
R32 and LED3 are parts already located on the GC-01 circuit board so I did not measure those but it's an LED bias resistor for a 3.3V circuit so I would guess its value is somewhere between 250 Ohms and 1000 Ohms.

@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
Yes, it takes a lot of trial and error to get cutting parameters right on a laser and most machines don't come with cutting parameter files leaving users to figure it out on their own.

Thanks for sharing this. I just ordered this from the links you provided. I see that it’s 220v but looks like it used a cord that looks like it’s plug into monitor. Did you have to modify to work with a 220v power source here in the US?
@MathIndy3 ай бұрын
No, I had 240V present on that workbench so I have it plugged into 240V and it works fine. If you want to run it from 120VAC you can probably get a step up transformer from McMaster Carr, eBay, or elsewhere. Not sure how many VA the transformer would need to be but it can be too much as the motors in this thing are small.

Yes but I bought a full ANSI set. Full ANSI sets are for sale on eBay and Amazon. Here's one listing: tinyurl.com/yjmr494b You can also get individual GT12 collets from sellers on AliExpress but beware there are many standards for tap shank sizes (ANSI, JIS, ISO, JIS, etc.) and they are all different. I think the ANSI set that is sold is mostly made up of metric collets that were "close enough".

Nice mod, in the end I decided to opt for just a 100nF cap between the LED signal and the gate of the transistor, it means I get clicks even when the alarm is active. You might want to take a look at the review of the GC-01 I just released on my channel. Sadly the product has just switched to a far inferior GM tube and this even includes the white-label versions of this device. I contacted the company here in China (where I am based) and they confirmed the change. Such a shame, its was pretty OK for a low cost counter...

Matthews, Would you consider repairing our Keithley 617? We would be willing to pay you well if you can get it to be accurate and stable. I suspect that it is a combination of relays and possibly noisy FET. The problem we are seeing is that it intermittently won't zero on the lowest current pages.

Regarding what you said about the µSv/h range, it definitely doesn't mean you shouldn't worry! The ICRP limit for occupational workers is 20 mSv per year, which you'll reach if you're exposed to a constant 90 µSv/h. These limits are set on top of the natural background radiation, which is around 6 to 16 µSv/h.

Good advice. I didn't mean to ignore the dangers of radioactivity. Alas, small amounts of radioactivity are present everywhere so, other than moving into a nuclear fallout shelter, it's not practical to live a life totally free from small amounts of exposure.

Fantastic work! That is a very beautiful machine you have there, and it was a lot of fun hearing about your diagnostics and repair technique. Those early HP's really do deserve more credit for being early "personal computers", as you so rightly point out. The Altairs and Apples and Sinclairs, et. al., of the world were building on ground that had already been surveyed and settled by these hand-crafted TTL discrete-logic-CPU type systems (q.v., the Datapoint 2200). All the microprocessor (8080 and 6500) did was shrink a logic card down to a single chip. The true ground breaking move was getting a fully function computer system into a desktop device in the first place. Congrats, again, just gorgeous.

I need a die for Dupont connectors to come along with it. My reels of Duponts are only connected with one spine on the insulation side of the connector. Is it possible for these machines to just do one-sided connector reels?
