I believe light and sound are like formation of life because by reading light and life began with li and that is inductive and current and intelligent and information ect all within the realm of lighting design from a to z

As a band nerd at NCUHS I got to see Sooner’s creative talent first hand. She is a great leader, but is also a creative powerhouse. She comments on her inspiration growing up, but she has probably at this point inspired so many many lighting designers at each of her new designs. Congratulations and go falcons!

I will definitely be checking out Colors in Between! Lighting people of color has certainly been a consideration of mine, and it’s amazing to learn Raquel has developed a research project to inform others!

There are two different wattage options for the Buster and Punch bulb: a 2W non-dimmable and a 5W dimmable. Do you know which one yours is? It looks very dim.

While well intended, don't we have an ever increasing responsibility to protect what ever darkness remains in cities? And to also encourage appreciation and understanding that this is a precious resource. Adding more artificial light, even if it's a novel art installation, only serves to further disconnect people from nature. And how ironic that this tries to "mimic" one of nature's most magnificent displays - the Aurora borealis. The location is also sadly ironic considering Greenwich Observatory is near by, and how crucial darkness at night was for the historic astronomical work that once occurred there. The hearts of astronomers today must break when they learn of events like this.

Hi Kyra, thank you for the thought provoking comment. We think that art has a really important role to play in culture, experience and enjoyment of a city. We understand where you are coming from and think there is a really fine line to be walked. Is it better to ban a temporary light installation or focus on improving or removing poorly executed permanent lighting or commercial advertising? In moderation we think there is a place for urban light art where it is done well and in control. The contribution of art to our society is really important and can definitely provoke interesting and useful discussions. In the case of this installation the effect was achieved by a laser projector mounted at about 4m aimed horizontally through a field of mist/smoke. Although it looks like a really massive and all encompassing light effect, if you step out of the courtyard it's almost invisible. The smoke is what makes it and the appearance of light over canary wharf is just perspective from being stood below the smoke layer.
