I plan on renting a car in Florence and driving around the Tuscan countryside. My only worry is knowing where and when I'm allowed to drive around Florence since the city center is usually ZTL. The rental company is within these limits so I imagine that I'm already in the ZTL?

Thanks David, We are planning to drive from Germany to Rome. We are four people, and we are considering renting a car. Since we also want to visit the beach and the sea, what would you suggest? Is it worth it, or can we visit the beach and the sea using public transportation.?

Question? I'll be in Rome in mid September and I've never been before. My wife and I would like to rent a car to drive from Rome to Florence instead of the train. The only rental options I see are at the airport. Is that correct? Do you have any suggestions on where to rent a car? FYI, your videos are awesome!! Just what I needed as a first-timer in Italy.
@DavidsDoseofItaly
@DavidsDoseofItaly 11 күн бұрын
Hi Shaun and thank you very much! While the train might be the cheaper and easier option, the advantage of having a car is that you are in full control and for me that’s worth the price The airport is your best option because you can drop it off when you have to come back and take your flight home Otherwise I really don’t recommend going into the city of Rome to look for the rental car company. My gut says that this would just be problematic.

Been driving here a few days now, straight from Fiunicino airport to the Abruzzo province. It’s been no problem for the most part. Some other points: 1). If you don’t have them at home, make sure you know how round-abouts work. 2). Just me being stupid, but when you want to pay the highway toll at the checkpoint via credit card, your card goes into the same slot that you just inserted the highway ticket. That messed me up. The English language button didn’t seem to work as well which didn’t help. 3). If you don’t want to pay tolls it may be possible to drive to your destination for free, but it’ll take longer. Check with your navigation app for possible alternate routes. They can be nice relaxing drives through nice little towns. 4). Double check your free mileage allowance with the rental car people here in comparison to your booking/confirmation. They told me “unlimited km” at Fiumicino when I picked up the car,”, but then I asked her why my contract with National says 1750 km free. She then confirmed I was in fact right, and it wasn’t unlimited. I think overall it’s good to rent a car here if you’re travelling a lot within the country, especially if you’re in a group of 3-4 people. Hauling luggage in and out of train stations and trains sucks. You’re also not worried about pick picketers and all that crap. I didn’t notice the honking thing at all, but I never drove in Rome.

Hi David! Great video 😁 to answer your graffiti question: my husband is Roman through and through, he grew up in Garbatella. He, like many other kids around the age of 14, started graffitiing as a way to express themselves. It’s a sort of emotional release, a way to say “I EXIST, I MATTER”. As they get older they realise it’s wrong to do this, and I know many from his graffiti group have turned this illegal art form into a full time job. One is a graphic designer, another wants to help children with emotional issues through art and psychology, another now works for the Comune di Roma thanks to his art! If they ever get together to paint, they seek out “Legal walls” aka a wall that has been designated by a neighbourhood as a free for all. Elderly people even walk past and enquire with curiosity about what they’re spray painting 😅 They all agree that the unnecessary tagging and spray painting in nice places is ugly, but it’s something mainly teenagers do whilst going through stuff. If more “legal walls” were allocated, maybe there’d be less of it in public spaces 🙌🏻 Hope that answers your question! Take care

So is the "full coverage" through discover cars actually full coverage? The price seems too good to be true. I can't find any info/terms on their website. What's the catch?
@DavidsDoseofItaly
@DavidsDoseofItaly 25 күн бұрын
It is. It’s just that if you have to file a claim discover cars reimburses you after you’ve paid anything to the rental car company. If my car had been stolen for example I would not have been liable and what happens after that would depend on the rental car companies theft policy. But in the end discover cars would cover you. I mention this in the video but the point is that theft and damages (not caused by you ) are ultimately covered by you. The actual car rental company may not be aware of your arrangement with Discovercars and so they offer you their list of insurance options. Upselling In the end you decide if you need their extras. Hope that clears things up.

Ok, so my great grandfather born in italy came to the US and had 7 children. If he became a US citizen say after the 5th child, would that mean only the first five and their descendants would be eligible? My grandfather was the last born. Or are you saying that he just had to have had his first child in the US prior to obtaining US citizenship and then all his children would be eligible?
@DavidsDoseofItaly
@DavidsDoseofItaly 25 күн бұрын
The latter situation. Italian law dictates that at the time of birth your Italian ascendent must still have been an Italian citizen in order to pass on his citizenship. The other 5 would be eligible and the last 2 no I’m afraid and the citizenship stops there. Check with the consulate anyway. Best of luck!

I have rented twice out of Venice airport. On the recommendation of a friend I used Europcar booked through their website. First class service both times, fair price, and no nasty surprises when returning the car. I have read reviews of cheaper companies that ding you when you return the car. I also used Europcar in Marseille France with the same experience. Regardless of which company you use, ALWAYS take numerous photos with your cell phone before you even unlock the car. Point to every scratch and dent that may be pre-existing on the car as you snap photos. Include the rental agent in the photos if they come out with you to inspect the car. Also, open the hood and make sure the brake fluid reservoir and oil dipstick show full. If the car comes with a GPS, find out how to change the language to English before leaving the rental car lot. Set the "home" button to the rental car lot, so you don't even have to plug in the address when returning the car.

LEGGI.

Growing up in Australia to Italian parents, we did the sauce, the sausages and made our own wine.
