Michael, Eddie Gomez is a great bass player, I put him in the same bag as Miroslav Vitous. Jeremy Steig's aunt is anthropologist, Margaret Mead, his father, William was a cartoonist for The New Yorker magazine, he must have had an interesting childhood. Thanks for showing that Phil Ochs album, every aspect of that release is amazingly brilliant, the cover art, the lyrics, the music and the song titles. I listened to a good chunk of '' E.H. in the UK", I love Albert Lee's playing with this nice ad hoc assembly of gifted music- makers. They could have done a wonderful instrumental version of ''The Revealing Science Of God''.

I use to have most of Al Stewart’s albums. I loved his historical songs. Every album he would go into some historic event that was always interesting. Now I just have his two popular albums. With Stewart the inner sleeve is a blessing. Very nice you helping out Herb Alpert fans by making sure they can get plenty of his albums.

Hi Michael, My very first Tim Buckley album was Greetings from LA and I followed it with Goodbye And Hello - two very different beasts! My collection jumps from Happy Sad to Starsailor so missing both Blue Afternoon and Lorca - should really rectify that. Really need to get the Mothers set but can't decide whether to get the 2LP or CD set (or both?). I don't know why they can't reproduce the full booklet for the vinyl version.
@michaelpdawson
@michaelpdawson Күн бұрын
Goodbye and Hello is a BIG favorite of mine. But very much an outlier in the Tim Buckley catalog as he was collaborating with a lyricist. It's hard for me to believe that Buckley did not write those lyrics himself as he inhabits those songs so perfectly. Blue Afternoon is my next favorite. Greetings from LA is the one I don't have. If you don't want to splurge on the 5LP box of the Mothers (not sure if it's even still available, though they did do a second pressing), I would recommend the CD set, which contains all three sets they did that night in their entirety. The 2LP highlights set is very fun, but you really should hear the whole event. Thanks for watching!

Hi Steve - It was tough to choose samples because these albums are generally so diverse that no 30-second needle drop is going to be representative. Just hearing that Outer Space Incorporated reminded you of Crimson's "Islands" was interesting. I have a tough time figuring out some of Sun Ra's live stuff versus the studio recordings. Some of the live stuff sounds like studio tracks. <> I got to check out "Omniverse". I like the jazzier Ra. I was super bummed when I read that Danny Ray Thompson had passed on. He was always my favorite Arkestra member. <> Love the cover art on the Space Age Is Here To Stay. I am all over those releases. Wow Michael. This was one heck of a video. My favorite of the week. Hi Rob! It is even mentioned in the liner notes of one of these LPs how Sun Ra had a habit of trimming the applause off of live recordings, so it is often hard to tell live from studio…and of course “studio” usually means recorded in Ra’s rehearsal space. Thanks for watching!

Michael, wonderful dive, deep into Joni's private Ocean. I always feel something ''special'' when listening to her, you hit the nail on the head, ''voyeuristic'' is the right word. In some ways she reminds me of a ''female'' William Blake, a true Romantic, eyes wide open to see the Universe in the casual banter between a bar-maid and a patron. My first album from Joni was the live, ''Shadows And Light'', I had just discovered Pat Metheny. I knew Max and John through their work with Zappa. I bought the Joni Mitchell box which includes this album and 9 other classics.

Michael, your deep dive into the Yes album, ''Tales From Topographic Oceans'' was a favorite of mine. You really polished up that Jewel! John Lennon wrote liner notes in red ink over a copy of ''The Mothers'' album. It was included on the inner sleeve of the ''Some Time In New York City'' double album. Unlike you, Michael, I'm not a musician, just a music lover/ listener, so your deep dives are very educational to my ears/ brain. In addition, your ''funny editions'' of 45s and full length albums are always a treat. I enjoyed this video, even though I never owned it. I did enjoy and owned, ''Just Another Band From L. A.'' The song ''Call Any Vegetable'' is a fun tune with nice guitar parts. Don Preston plays the mini- moog throughout ''Billy The Mountain'', much to my delight. Cal Schenkel said that the album cover art on ''Burnt Weeny Sandwhich'' was supposed to be used on an Eric Dolphy release, but that of course, never happened.
@michaelpdawson
@michaelpdawson 28 күн бұрын
Hi Michael! Zappa was not happy about John Lennon issuing that defaced version of the Fillmore cover--I don't think Lennon even asked for permission to use the album art. In fact, Zappa was unhappy about that release in general, including the way the jam was edited/mixed and credited. The Eric Dolphy album that the Burnt Weeny Sandwich art was created for did eventually come out as Iron Man, of course with different art. Thanks for watching, all the best!
