So close and yet so far . We often hear about the one that should have won , and Tuapeka Star must be one of the most unlucky ones , but that’s racing !!!

Would have to have been one of the champ’s easiest runs / wins - Gammalite , one of the toughest horses to ever grace a trotting track .

Five years later, 14,607 km (9076 miles) away, Robin Dundee would again finish second to Cardigan Bay -- at Freehold Raceway, on the day Cardigan Bay became the sport's first millionaire.

Ah yes Ian, a real favourite race. Jimmy Jacques was really getting a point across. Other favourite races was a race 1 week prior to his final Miracle Mile. Touted as to old. He came out and slaughtered the field. Fred Hastings said at the conclusion "see you next week Trigger" Unfortunately a quick back up for a 12 year old is a bridge to far. When he came back on a farewell tour the crowd swelled at Menangle. For 1 reason only. Smoken Up.

Hi Howard. Thank you for your comment. You might have seen this one already, but if you want to see "tough" check out the 2013 South Australia Cup at Globe Derby Park. The commentary is terrific too.

Talk about over use of the wipe by Clark! The best stayer won, he didn't sit and sprint like most sitting behind the leader, Clark applied pressure on Vinny from the 600, what a gutsy tough horse!

But for quarter cracks in his hooves he could have been anything. A world beater at his best . Sad that the Globe Derby line died out not long after, with Greats like Lawn Derby, Johny Globe , Lordship etc leaving lasting memories

Is this a joke? The horse never raced against the best pacers in the world in America and then when he finally did he was lucky to even hit the board on the show ticket. At the time Bret Hanover was the world champion and great sire.

😁 He was the first horse to win a million dollars and beat Bret Hanover when they first met winning the Pace of the Century. They had him on the Ed Sullivan Show. He was even barred from the betting in America for a while, He was that dominant. You don't know what you're talking about

I was a member for years at MOONEE VALLEY ! I remember something called Bookmakers , but I go back to when my Dad and Grandfather used to take me to the Showgrounds ! It was a a Incredible place with ! Welcome Advice ! Hondo Grattan and Such ! MOONEE VALLEY was not as Close but being a member and seeing all my mate Shane Hoban ! Ken Knight and many many more including Viney it was a Golden Time ! The Horses Incredible ! The night Pure Steel sat outside Rip Van Winkle and ground him into the ground was memorable ! The Drivers Ted Demmler ! Graham Lang ! VIN and many many more like the the Horses of then would Run Rings around todays Who lay out of the back of the Sulkey and look like Dills ! I have refused to go to Melton ! It’s to Far and out in the Never Never and lacks Atmosphere ! Yes Paleface was a Champion but Poppy was a once in a Generation or two and so was Viney Good Bless him ! After the last at MOONEE VALLEY We would as a group all go to BILLBOARDS NIGHTCLUB ato drink CROWNIES and Talk Horses ! I worked for Wayne Honan when I left School for two years ! He had some Magnificent Paces and I can say I have sat behind them all except ARDSTRAW ! Atmosphere unfortunately seems to be dying ! Also remember Dad taking me to OLYMPIC PARK Dogs on a Monday night on the Yarra ! That Had Atmosphere and the Footballers and people you see like Father Brosnan the Priest at Pentridge !
