Great design, do you find the addition of the holes/slots help or do they allow for ingres of mud ?
@x5or4 ай бұрын
To answer your question for which I thank you, I couldn't think of anything better than to go back a century to see what CHARLIE thought about it... Indeed, the holes which appear laterally oriented outwards will be subject to generous penetration of mud into the tunnel welded to the main base. However, drainage holes oriented downwards will release this mud with a simple carwash when washing the DISCO. That said, Charlie confirms that these holes were deliberately designed to ensure better ventilation of the interior of the tunnel avoiding any oxidation of the metal (This is what unfortunately happens to many commercial rock sliders). Because even if these holes did not exist. water and or mud will easily find their way to the interior of the tunnel from the two columns of the front and rear door and also from the LOGO. The other holes located inside the main block do not present problems because they are juxtaposed to the sill. Despite everything, alternating oval openings are there to avoid any retention of mud. In addition, this makes the rock slider significantly lighter.

Anybody looking to copy this setup I would strongly advised you, regear your transfer case to cope with those bigger tyres. I would suggest 1:1.4 in the transfer box, the Discovery normally uses 1:1.2. Standard radius arms won't cut it, so they will need about 4 degrees of correction. You'll need to change the propshafts as well, because you will break your standard props with that level of suspension lift otherwise.
@x5or5 ай бұрын
Hi Mike, Thank you for explaining things so well in every way. Between the date this video was posted and today I decided that it would be more appropriate to limit myself to 33 inches and not 35 so as not to have to upgrade as many elements for limited additional gain. I will limit myself to redesigning the radius arms, wattslink, draglink, spacers, abs cables and brake pipes. I will eventually replace the transfer case with that of a Defender 1.41 equipped with CDL. In the end, lockers will end the list and not one more bolt... I don't know if you've already had the opportunity to check out the latest videos posted starting with [THE MEGA PROJECT] to get a better idea. Thanks again for your advice.

freelander abs not work !!!!
@x5or5 ай бұрын
On the contrary. It works great with TC. However, in certain difficult conditions, the TC alone is simply incapable of overcoming obstacles. it is then necessary to lock the differentials either central or rear.

@@x5or The Freelander has electronic locking due to ABS (braking a slipping wheel and transferring torque to another). that doesn't happen in this video
@x5or5 ай бұрын
@@politicazlo8926 it is not because you noticed that at minute 7:57 that the TC appears to be completely absent that this proves that it was not electronically activated! that's not true! The TC indicator shows each time by its illumination that it is in action. You must realize that the firmware of this generation of Freelander 1 cannot in any way be compared to that of a Freelander 2. at minute 15:45 where the freelander only touches the ground with its two wheels, the effect of TractionControl is clearly visible! @@carhard_oldmachine2743 it's a 2001 model. You have to know that from 2001 until 2004 Freelanders are fitted with common rail bmw diesel engine by default or V6 petrol. You don't have to swap your engine.

I don’t know exactly the year of manufacture of the pre-restyling Freelandera with common rail, so I’m asking people who have or had these cars. If you say that your car is 2001 and there is an M47 with common rail without a high-pressure pump VP44, this is good! that is, I can safely look at cars produced from 2001 to 2004?

@@carhard_oldmachine2743 The Freelander in the video is not restyled, it is the FL1 116HP. On the other hand, its engine is different from that found in the 1998-2000 launch models which are equipped with a less powerful Rover engine. In your place I will directly select the Freelander 2 model 2010-2014 equipped with a 2.2L common rail engine from Ford (TD4:160HP / SD4:190HP) With excellent reliability compared to the FL1 that I drive.

Hi, have you tried lift kit and using 32’ AT tyres. I’ve been searching for it but cannot find😢
@x5or8 ай бұрын
Sorry for being late in responding to you. I was fit to drive. by the way, I have definitely put the project of raising the X5 on hold due to the absence of LowRange mode. (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e8d_palq3q_JZp8.html) During the first year off-road and in fairly delicate conditions I noticed that the tires were damaged very quickly due to slippage at high revolutions (HighRange), even if I kept the transmission in 1st. Unlike LowRange which allows better control in such conditions. Answering your question. If I install AT 32" tires they will systematically lose a lot of their studs which will be clearly felt later on the highway by the noise produced at high speed. which is already the case currently with my original tires.
