What about x2 with 200-600, have you ever tried it? It's gonna be really bad?
@CurtisSnapshot2 күн бұрын
I haven’t tried the 2x teleconverter with the 200-600 myself, largely because I couldn’t find many positive reviews on that combination. From what I’ve learned using the 1.4x TC, I think using a 2x TC would make capturing sharp photos unnecessarily difficult. That said, I’m open to other opinions-teleconverters can be very subjective, and it really comes down to what works for you and how you work with them.

The TC does NOT work properly from an AF perspective on anything other than an A7R V in my experience - the enhanced AF capabilities on the new body can help alleviate some of the tracking issues. Also, as pointed out in this video, unless you're shooing in full daylight, and not into heavy cover, it's probably best to keep it off as the compensation in ISO just isn't worth the extra reach. I've taken some great images with the 1.4 that I would have been unlikely to have got without it, but I have missed potentially some of the greatest pics of my shooting career due to heat-haze and unnatural bokeh. For me personally, the use of the TC is extremely subjective, and you need to be experienced enough with composition and reading light to be able to get the most out of it.

I have the 1.4 teleconverter on my Sony a7 mkiii and sony 200-600mm lens. I found it very noisy. But will try F11. I use shutter priority as I find it very difficult to use Manual mode trying to focus and hold the heavy lens.
@CurtisSnapshot3 күн бұрын
I hope it helps! Experiment with lots of different settings. Just keep in mind that f/11 will reduce the amount of light entering the camera, which can increase noise. Sometimes the teleconverter doesn’t work well in certain weather conditions. Thank you for commenting and good luck!

How do you rig up your PD strap while you wear your backpack so well. Any tips or tricks, it looks like you have pretty good mobility with it.
@CurtisSnapshot11 күн бұрын
There are some little tricks that make it more comfortable. I put on the backpack first and tighten it securely. Then I wear the PD strap over the top so it doesn't get stuck behind any of the backpack straps. I "holster" my camera by tucking the tripod foot of the lens into my backpack's waist strap. This is the most helpful part because it takes the weight of the lens off my neck and shoulders and distributes it to my hips. Thanks for commenting, glad you've been enjoying the videos!

Hello, I watch your channel from Poland. I want to switch from Fuji to Sony. Which camera to choose for photographing animals, Sony a7IV or Sony a7CII. These cameras are in my price range, the a7IV is nice but the a7cII has the new AI focus, so I don't know what to choose. Kind regards.
@CurtisSnapshot11 күн бұрын
That’s a really tough choice, I did some quick reading online and it sounds like the a7cii is a little more polished than the a7iv. It looks like that new AI autofocus system brings up the keeper rate of photos as well. The only downside I can see with the a7cii, might be the ergonomics. The camera body is a bit smaller in the hand, it might not feel as balanced with some telephoto lenses, and the view finder isn’t centred. One last possible con, is the lack of a joystick, I personally use it all the time on the a7iv to shift my focus box around the screen. But these might not be deal breakers for you. I don’t personally have any experience with the a7cii, but I hope the transition is smooth and which ever camera you end up with, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it! Thanks for commenting, cheers!

I try to find a balance between exploring new places and revisiting familiar ones where I know I can find some wildlife to work with. The adventures themselves often inspire the narrative that I want to follow, which recently has been a lot of unexpected encounters and enjoying the little things along the way. Once I have that narrative in mind, I begin to work on an intro, and if the intro inspires me enough, the rest tends to follow naturally. This particular video was meant to be several videos, but as I built out the narrative, I realized these different adventures could come together to build out a bigger story. Hopefully, that makes a bit of sense. It's fun to gather my chaotic thoughts and think about how I bring these videos together, so thank you for asking!

Hi, It would really help if you could reply. Im confused between this and the 100-400 GM. How's the focusing speed, have you felt it's slow somehow or is it really good? Also heard about dust sucking inside the lens since it's external zoom. How's your experience? How's the animal/bird eye tracking?
@CurtisSnapshot17 күн бұрын
Hey! I don't have any personal experience with the Sony 100-400 GM, but from what I've seen, it has a slightly wider aperture than the Sigma lens, which is great for wildlife photography. Sony GM lenses are known for their incredible sharpness, however they are very pricey. Which is where the sigma comes in. In my experience, the autofocus of the sigma 100-400 is fairly quick with my Sony a7iv. I managed to capture a hummingbird using bird eye autofocus. The lens is sharp, especially with close subjects. Dust buildup inside the lens is a possibility; mine has some, which is annoying, but it hasn't affected my images so far. I made a video on this lens last summer if you wanted to check it out. Thanks for commenting, hope my reply was helpful! kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7N3idWk0ceVeGQ.html

@CurtisSnapshot21 күн бұрын
I’m sure it would be great, the main thing I’ve seen online is the autofocus system in that particular camera isn’t very strong, so that could make capturing some things a little more difficult. At the end of the day, whatever camera you have or are thinking of getting, would be good, it’s more so the lens that will make a big difference when you’re first starting out.

HI, MY 5 CENTS. THIS LENS IS A FULL FRAME LENS. USSUALLY FULL FRAME LENS WORKS BETTER WITH FULL FRAME CAMERA. IF YOU USE IT WITH CROP SENSOR CAMERA YOU NEED TO STOP DOWN ONE STOP TO GET MOST OUT OF THE LENS. THAT IS OBVIOUS. BUT THIS LENS IS DIFFERENT. THIS LENS IS VERY,VERY SHARP PAIRED WITH CROP SENSOR CAMERA OR FULL CAMERA IN CROP MODE. NO NEED FOR STOPPING DOWN. ON TOP OF IT, THIS LENS PAIRED WITH FULL FRAME CAMERA REQUIRES STOPPING DOWN NO MUCH BUT STILL TO GET MOST OUT OF THIS LENS. CHECK IT OUT. KIND REGARDS PETER CHROMIK

I am thinking to get the 1.4x teleconverter or just get 6700 instead, any suggestions?
@CurtisSnapshot27 күн бұрын
The crop factor of the a6700 would put the 200-600mm lens at an equivalent of 900mm, giving you more reach without the potential quality loss or loss of light associated with a teleconverter. I think that could be a really good setup.

Hello, i like your photos a lot but i dont unterstand how you manage to take these shots with such a high ISO but without image noise. Can you explain how you do that?
@CurtisSnapshotАй бұрын
Hey, thank you for your kind words about my photos! The quick answer is DXO denoise. When using a teleconverter, there's a loss of light, which often requires a higher ISO. The a7iv does a great job at handling noise as long as the photo is well exposed. At the time I created this video, I relied on DXO to denoise the images. Since then, I've refined my techniques to avoid shooting at such high ISOs whenever possible. While I still use denoising software occasionally, I find that the built-in denoising features in Lightroom are now more than powerful enough to handle any noise issues. I hope that was somewhat helpful!

Did you notice that bigger bird flying past in the background at 2:33 to the left of your arm?
@CurtisSnapshotАй бұрын
Hey Adrian, I greatly appreciate the support as always! The tricky thing about those bigger birds in the sky is, they’re usually either a crow, or a vulture, which can both be really cool! I usually ignore them though, simply because the photo against the harsh sky wouldn’t turn out so great. On another note, maybe I should have left this in the video, I saw two egrets fly over the field when I was out there! The photos I captured were so terrible, but I was incredibly excited haha!

Haven't you considered a matte box like Freewell's Eiger or just a 95mm VND for when you film? That matte box without the flap can be work as a semi-hood with the ability to put in/out the VND/CPL when needed and go neutral for photos. I have the PolarPro Basecamp and it's a pain to even consider getting the CPL out so you're always at a disadvantage of about -1 stop if you consider keeping the matte box on. Love your videos, narration, and the spot-on music in conjunction.
@CurtisSnapshotАй бұрын
I have definitely been leaning on the idea of using some sort of VND. Freewell even reached out, asking if I would like to try out their hybrid VND/CPL. However it didn't come in a 95mm filter thread. That being said, I didn't consider a matte box, I will be looking into that! Thanks for commenting, glad you enjoyed the video!
