I never understand why ppl say Co2 won't damage on electrical fires. The fire has already damaged it. So chose the type of extinguisher that's the most effective in putting it out lol

I'm a big proponent of Amerex and Ansul fire extinguishers above all others. But I'll admit the UK extinguishers have a certain aesthetic appeal to them.

Can you use a wet chemical extinguisher to put out a (mostly plastic) microwave that’s on fire? Providing that the microwave is unplugged ofc. Surely, even if it was CAUSED by an electrical fire (class f), it’s just a class A fire once it’s unplugged? And therefore it’d make more sense to use the wet chemical rather than the CO2? Because CO2 isn’t suitable for class A?

about the CO2 ones, the main reason why it should be used putting out electrical fires is not because it wont damage the electronics its because it won't short circuit the live wires present in it. thats why putting it out with water is often a death sentence to some people.
@dancoulson65792 жыл бұрын
We have an old CO2 one in the kitchen dates 1993. I just gave it a quick test and seems to be in working order. A good thing to have in the house, for sure. Luckily we've never needed to use it.
@brilliant13675 Жыл бұрын
You do realize that partial discharge of a fire extinguisher renders it out of service, and will lose its pressure, meaning it won't work when you need it to? You don't test extinguishers my trying then out. That voids them. You check by looking at the gauge to see if the pressure is in range, and if it's a co2 extinguisher or clean agent, it's done by weight. I sure hope you never need to use it because it will not work if you have partially discharged it.

@joeteejoetee3 жыл бұрын
A bit at a time is the best way ever - any empty CO2 fire extinguisher means that you have lost the battle because of over reaction and misguided chilling and smothering actions. A tiny 1 second squirt can put out most grease/fuel fires instantly at the base of the flames.

Can you use on electricity then please
@brilliant13675 Жыл бұрын
Yes it's rated C so it's a non conducter. You will NOT become the ground if you discharge this on something that has live electricity running through it.

I have a question. When using co2 extinguisher, do co2 coming out effects the environment?
@joeteejoetee3 жыл бұрын
The entire building burning down will release 100,000-2Million fold more CO2 than that tiny bottle of cold liquid CO2, so PLEASE put out the starting fire FIRST!
@harshverma5743 жыл бұрын
@@joeteejoetee do we really need to have an entire building to burn to use the extinguisher!? I guess not. So answer the damn question if you know otherwise get your random answer out of here.
@Camwize3 жыл бұрын
No it does not negatively effect the environment because the co2 that is in the extinguisher was taken from the air and put in the extinguisher, therefore all you are doing is returning it to the air from whence it came. NO new co2 is created I'm order to fill an extinguisher.
@joeteejoetee3 жыл бұрын
@@Camwize EXACTLY CORRECT. I truly cannot imagine an intelligent person hesitating to use a CO2 fire extinguisher ASAP to FIGHT a FIRE - especially a hydrocarbon FIRE!!!
@joeteejoetee3 жыл бұрын
I wonder if there has ever been a study that compares CO2 to DryChemical powder on the basis of total environmental impact. #1 is a bottle of pure CO2, which evaporates back into the air. #2 is a bottle of powder that blankets and melts onto hot surfaces (emitting what then?) and solidifies. How was the powder made. How damaging is the excess powder? How long does it take for the powder to bio-decompose. How recyclable/refillable is it?

@joeteejoetee3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but hopefully never have to use it. CO2 is way cleaner than dry-powder in the kitchen for any size fire. After a small Toaster-Oven+Cheese fire a normal dry-powder extinguisher was used and the entire kitchen had to be cleaned, the Toaster-Oven thrown out, AND the dry-powder extinguisher replaced. I was not home at the time, but I would have simply un-plugged the toaster oven (flaming inside) and thrown it out the back kitchen door and used a water hose on it. If we had CO2 back then then a short blip of gas, and closing the lid the fire would be out, and we would not have had to clean the entire kitchen from the dry-powder residue overspray.
