ah pool 9 the googan mating grounds, never in my life have i seen a bigger gathering of non fisherman on the water in my life, i live here and we all watch the tourists pile in by the droves each spring, and mate with each other on the water....its like san fransisco in our little town. awesome vids though, and good luck in the series.

Just had them installed on my Striper 220WA here in the UK. I haven't had time to try the boat since the installation but we are relocating it soon 26 miles down the coastline so it will be interesting to get to grips with these wakes.. good sensible video by the way.

I have used these flies many many many times on the Missouri river in fast current, slow current, side current, riprap, shelfs drop offs and have yet too get hit. I have no clue what else to try. any suggestions?

I would try another presentation to see if it’s a lack of fish in the area or the flies for starters. Once you’re able to point to the flies, play with colors, leads, weights, action, tipping with bait until you start to fine tune variables that fish show a positive response to.

When you reset pitch and roll the boat shall lay still and level side wise and length wise on the water. You need to read the operating manual once more, you are resetting the pitch and roll settings wrong. If someone moves in the boat, the auto roll will take care of it, you do not need to do it manually, you only need to compensate a little with the steering because the friction increases a little on the loaded side.

Wondering if this system would work on the Saint Clair River? This river is half mile wide and depths from 6-40' deep and forms the border between Michigan and Canada 🇨🇦. We use an anchored technique with 2-3 minnow type plugs piggybacked, 3 way and 2-4 Oz. Sinker. Curious if your fly rig would work here. We have clear water conditions on this river too.

I think you could whip these behind the boat and probably get away with slightly less weight since they have a lot less resistance than cranks. Little taps, let them drift back and cover some water. Give it a try!

Nice job! Just wondering about the weight calculation? I see you don't measure girth. Do they calculate that with the length? Thanks
@joeokada
@joeokada 3 ай бұрын
Aim just uses length so we are searching for the longest fish. Each length has a weight associated so the conversion gives you an idea of what you’d have for weight for a reference but ultimately just looking for the longest fish in the system👍

@@joeokada Thanks Joe. CPR is good for releasing quickly, but some how they should incorporate girth. The formula is Weight = Length x Girth (squared) /shape factor (750). This would require more handling the fish would not be the best. I guess the playing field is the same for everyone. Next time you catch a girthy walleye (29 +) check it out. Use a cloth tape or tailors tape works fast. You may have done this... Thanks again...good luck out...tight lines

May is a great month to start with them but they can get bites in cold water if you can find them. I think there’s a small shop in waubasha that carries them but I don’t know the name.

Would using braid with a long mono leader be okay? Or does the braid impact the action?

Many people prefer braid to flouro for pitching jigs. Sometimes I do too but in current I prefer straight mono. Just personal preference either way you'll catch fish!

I do a minnow plug technique with a 3 way and dropper of 3 Oz. Sinker. The minnow plugs are piggybacked behind each other with 10' leaders...2-3 plugs working in current from an anchored boat in 20'- 35' of water. This rig is jerked an arms sweep upstream and followed back to bottom. Line is freespooled downstream at 10- 20' intervals with a line-couter reel. This method is called "whipping" and we use it on the Saint Clair River, Michigan. My question is could this fly technique you use work on a deeper, larger river with a faster current. The Saint Clair River flows between Lake Huron and Lake Saint Clair. This river can be 1/2 mile wide and is the border between Michigan and Canada 🇨🇦. Thanks for any advice as I think these flies might work well.

Great video, i just found your channel and subscribed, what is the rule of thumb you could recomend for the weight size as far as current and depth, i will try this flies technique on Monday for first time, please keep the informative videos coming, thank you!
@joeokada
@joeokada 4 ай бұрын
If you start with a 1oz weight and make a cast, you’ll be able to feel if you’re being carried by the flow too quickly and adjust up or down from there. Once you get the the back of the boat you want them to work in place while being gently swept around.

It is refreshing to hear a fly tyer say less is best since less is never more. I think that saying less is more only serves to confuse people wanting to learn how to tie... the other thing I like is that you use spinning gear with your flies... with me being a fly rodder, I say awesome to you. Great job on the video.

Love the video and the tips. Great rig I’ll have to try it this summer. Had a thought/ suggestion about the rig, instead of attaching a quick connect to an expendable sinker. When I dropshot I’ll tie a perfection loop, a bowline, or a even just a overhand loop and then I do what you do with your t-loop and then it’s just as easy to switch out and there is less hardware to be lost. Cheers and tight lines 🤙
